By now, you sort of know others perceive you to be like some impenetrable metal fortress with an ice palace inside. It’s true that you have qualms about moving out of your comfort zone, but it doesn’t mean you haven’t tried doing it. And the lack of articulation shouldn’t lead others into believing things you would never want them to believe.
There’s a boundary between you and the world. You’ve crossed it, been on the other side but then made it a seemingly visible one. So, that side would mean embracing the world’s idea of being normal. Parties. Flings. Feigning happiness. But you’ve failed so often, you decided it’s best to stop.
The boundary does get invisible, when there’s a connection between the two worlds. But for that connection to happen, a human needs to be half in and half out. Either a human could pull you out, which would take longer than anyone expects.. or a human could come all in, which would bring misery. Solitude isn’t always a bright place.
Of course you have reservations, not because you fear heartbreak but because you fear being the heartbreaker. You could convince yourself that you can’t give others normalcy, but what happens when someone offers it to you with a kind of acceptance hard to come by?
Don’t fight it. Maybe it’ll turn out to be the only connection you’ll ever need, and eventually, it could lead you to the happiness humans on the other side just dream of.
