First person POV
Tonight’s the night. It’s finally happening. I’ve laid the groundwork for weeks now. I’ve been the perfect gentleman. And tonight, it’s finally happening – I’m losing my virginity.
I should be happy, right? Ecstatic? Something along those lines, anyway.
So why do I feel only nervousness?
Maybe I just need to take my mind off it. Probably best not to raise expectations, they only lead to disappointment. Maybe I’m reading into it. Maybe we’re just going out to dinner and then to her place for a nightcap is all.
Oh god, what if this is all a mistake? What if it seems like I’m coming on too strong? Maybe I should cancel. Yes, no, I should definitely cancel.
I rush back to my room to get my phone. I punch in Emily’s number. But I can’t seem to bring myself to hit dial.
What do I say? Should I postpone? Should I make up some fake emergency to back out? Should I break up with her?
I’m frustrated at this point. So much pressure on this losing-your-v-card-before-graduation BS, I brought this on myself.
And then, I feel my phone vibrate in my hand.
Christ, it’s her.
“hey babe, my parents aren’t home this weekend, can’t wait to see you tonight x”
I have never been so relieved in my entire life.
The nerviness is passing. I think I’m finally ready.
“can’t wait to see you tonight too xx”

Omniscient POV
Ethan lay sprawled on the living room floor, his mind going a million miles an hour. “Tonight’s the night,” he thought to himself, “tonight’s the night I lose my virginity.”
His friends told him about when they’d had sex for the first time – Simon when he was 16, Josh when he was 17, Tobi when he was 17 – and tonight, it was Ethan’s turn to join the club. He’d laid down the groundwork with Emily for the last 6 and a half weeks, he’d been the perfect gentleman, and tonight was the night it all paid off.
He should’ve been counting down the minutes until he had to leave.
So, what was this nervousness he was feeling?
He was all alone at home, and that didn’t help soothe his mind. “Maybe I’m wrong, maybe this is just another date,” he thought to himself. He thought about calling and cancelling. Picking up his phone, however, he was faced with another dilemma – what would he say?
Just then, his phone went off in his hand.
It was Emily.
“hey babe, my parents aren’t home this weekend, can’t wait to see you tonight x”
Somehow, those 14 words seem to take all the edge off. He felt the nervousness pass just as quickly as it came.
“can’t wait to see you tonight too xx,” he texted back. Maybe tonight wouldn’t be so bad after all.
