If you are looking for a travel towel, you will typically come across both microfiber towels, quick-drying towels, and lightweight towels in your search. However, you do not need to be confused by this. "Dear child has many names," says an old saying - and it also fits on microfiber towels.
All the names say something about the towel; they are made of microfiber, they dry quickly, and they do not weigh much. The three properties are the overall ones for all microfiber towels. Some dry faster than others, and some weigh less than others, but compared to cotton towels, the weight is generally lower, while the drying ability is generally better.
So you can safely buy a towel, which in the product name is referred to as quick-drying or lightweight. If you are in doubt about whether the towel is made of microfiber, you can take a look at the material. A microfiber towel is produced in either polyester or polyamide - or most often a mixture.
How to optimize a microfiber towel
Most people know the feeling of having bought a new towel or tea towel - or a microfiber cloth - which is used directly from the wrapper, and nothing can soak. Typically, it helps to wash the towel before use, but you can actually do even more to optimize the microfiber towel's absorbency:
- Put the towel in cold water for 24 hours
- Wash the towel alone
- Wash the towel once more, if necessary. with matching colors
- Let the towel air dry (preferably outdoors)
Similar advice also works with microfiber cloths and tea towels. You will find that the suction power is completely different and lives up to the promise by using this method. This is only the first time you need to wash your microfiber towel this way. The towel can be machine washed (typically at 30 degrees) or alternatively washed by hand if you are on a trip.
