I see you
Every waking moment,
Just behind every corner,
Lurking in the shadows,
Basking in the sun,
I see you.
I see your dead gray eyes
Trying to make sense
Of the conundrum we are in,
Of the lives we are living,
Of the lies we are living.
I see you.
Your once soft hands,
With dirt caked under fingernails -
They once were capable of gentle touches-
Now they just draw blood.
I see them too.
I see you trying to reach me from behind the mirror
In one last pursuit of happiness.
I put on my sunglasses,
Keep them firmly on my nose.
I choose not to see you.
