All the HVAC equipment will work fine as long as its installed correctly. I am sure the equipment is fine but any contractor that installs them seems to do a shitty job. When I see a goodman I know they probably have big problems. They get hacked in by shitty contractors trying to save a couple hundred per job. Also they sell to anybody.
IMO Trane/American Standard and Rheem/Ruud have consistently been of high quality gas furnace. However, if the furnace isn’t installed correctly (which includes matching the airflow to the duct static) or adjusted properly (especially at 5000′+ elevations) then any furnace will have issues.
Some have consistently lower quality parts (Carrier/Bryant), some make you beholden to their distributors (Lennox) and will obsolete parts then charge an arm and leg for replacement parts (Lennox again), and some will have lower quality parts while offering a great warranty (Goodman/Amana). Some have ok models while one or two of their models are terrible (like Goodman GMH95 series).
Though I am not a fan of Goodman/Amana furnaces I AM a fan of the Amana air conditioners - they have quality parts in them. I am a fan of the Rheem furnaces but am not a fan of their air conditioners (excessive restriction on the evaporator coil and tight fin spacing on the AC unit).
So to say that there is one particular manufacturer that does best across the board is probably pushing the claims too much. There will be gives and takes from one brand to another. Proper installation is probably the bigger factor than brand.
Carrier has a good reputation, but it seems like their quality has gone down in the past few years. I find a lot of indoor coils leaking as well as condenser coil problems.
Example: we did a condo building with 16 condensers on the roof and iirc 10 had a leak in the condenser coil, all in the same spot from the factory. I replaced three carrier evap coils in the past three weeks because the were leaking.
I personally like rheem/Ruud, and trane/American standard. Some of these new trane furnaces and airs are so quiet you can't even tell the are on. Trane makes some super nice high quality stuff.
