On a particularly hot night, a girl was walking down a narrow street. The moon was giving just enough light to allow her to see a few feet ahead. The air was heavy, as if a thunderstorm was about to come. The girl, more a young adult than a girl, could be qualified normal on each point. She was quietly returning to her home after long working hours.
She put her headphones on and begun to walk faster as she heard, from far away, the bell of a church ringing the twelve strokes of midnight. That was her first mistake. A few minutes later, her eyes were attracted by a shadow extending from behind her. She overturned to check out, but she only saw an empty dark street. She thought that her tired mind was playing tricks on her and so she wasn't much worried. That was her second mistake. As she began to walk again, she wondered about her next meal. Lost in her thoughts, she could never have anticipated what was going to happened.
The moonlight reflected on a knife, revealing, for a second, the bad intentions of a desperate man. While a cloud passed over the moon, shading the street even more, the blade cut through the skin then through the heart of the poor girl, totally unconscious of her terrible fate. For a love he was sure he could never have, the man choose to deprive everybody else of it, with a terrible and irremediable act.
That night, two human being lost precious thing... The girl lost her life while the man lost his humanity for ever.
