Only girl between boys

I'm now in my junior year in college and life couldn't be any better.

It's been a hot minute since I've written something, but I'm back. And I'm back with something. It's about that I'm the only girl between boys. No, not in that way (I saw what you did there). My story is about being the only girl in the student council at my college. Yes you read that correctly, the only girl. But my story isn't negative, it's quite positive actually. Well, let me start at the beginning...

In the beginning of this academic year the students had to choose a student representative, and the students of the department of Health and Wellbeing choose me, again. The excitement that went through me was mind blowing, why? Because I LOVE being a student rep. Because a student rep. protects and cares for his' or hers students. When the students from all the departments were chosen we had ourselves a student council (or student body however you want to call it) and every student council needs a president. A guy and myself wanted to be president, so the student council voted. Well, when the votes were counted I was beyond happy, I was chosen. I became the first chairwoman in years! At first I thought that it would be intimidating being a chairwoman in the middle of an all-male student council, but it was the opposite.

Yes, there were moments when some of the guys were dismissing or even ignoring some things that I was saying and I had enough of it. When I asked the guys what the actual problem was we started talking and we started to understand eachother. To me it was important to keep the balance and dynamic in the group, but I wouldn't tolerate letting a man, or anyone, walk over me so I stood up for myself. Shortly after that we had a meeting and everything went so smoothly. The guys were so sweet, generous and kind-hearted that my heart filled with gratitude. I treated them as equals, so they treated me as equals.

In the society that we live in today equality is talked about, but I feel like people are all talks but no actions. We, and I mean women AND men, need to stand up for our rights and beliefs. A lot of men think that their ego will be shattered if a woman is their boss, chairwoman,... and a lot of women still think that they can't fulfill a position like that. Let's break the wheel. Let's break the chain of stupidity and morals that are so outdated and let us start fighting for equality for every single of one us. Because like in my case, you can end up with hard-working gentlemen that turn out to be amazing friends as well.
