Parent-Child Relationship Problems- Do You Have One?

As much as I love music by Whitney Houston I admire her 5 parenting tips equally. She says:

1- I believe children are our future
2- Teach them well and let them lead the way
3- Show them all the beauty inside
4- Give them a sense of pride
5- Let the children’s laughter remind us how we used to be

Don’t we all love to be the perfect parent every single day? The struggle is real but essentially has to be dealt with day in and day out. Because of the trauma of negative parenting and problems arising from poor parent-child relation span over the entire life of a child.

You would hear a lot about relationship issues between spouses but parent-child relationship issues often get neglected. How many times have you seen someone visit a psychiatrist with their child to improve their relationship with them? I have not even heard of it in long!

Let's be honest and admit we all have difficult days with our children where they do not want to understand our well-meant notions. A moment or two of conflict is common in every family.

Parent-child relationship problems arise when a child fails to develop a loving and enduring bond with a parent through the initial years of childhood. This may result due to neglecting behavior and lack of care by parents.

Dreading a parent-child relationship wreck would not help you any better. If you feel like your child is withdrawn and afraid of you seek help. Most importantly show them you are available and your love is unconditional.

Tips to Improve Your Relationship With Your Child

Maintaining an open relationship with your child throughout different stages of life is important. Here are a few tips to improve your relationship with your child.

Assure Your Love Every Day Especially on Trying Days

You love your child no matter what are the circumstances. Communicating this every day and especially on hard ones can do wonders in improving your relationship with them.

After an argument, a conflict, or a tantrum do let them know that this situation or any other reaction doesn’t make them unwanted.

Play With Them

Get down on the floor and play with your children. They might have expensive toys and interesting games but what makes it most memorable for them is your time and undivided attention. While you are on it do not miss to notice the calm and happiness on their faces.

Teach Your Kids About Faith and Beliefs

Share your faith and believes with your children. Let them ask questions and clarify as much as you can. Reinforce these often. Kids having parents with varied beliefs may have trouble. A little professional help in this regard can go a long way.

Let Them Help You

Letting your kids help you in tasks is a great way to bond. This teaches them essential life skills as well. Unloading groceries, mixing the batter for a cake, gathering laundry or anything around the house can be an opportunity for you and kids to spend some time and bond with each other.

Engage In One-on-one Activities

Even if you have two or more kids make time to indulge in activities with each kid separately. It might be reading a book, watching a movie, or just a walk around the corner with him. Celebrating each child individually is important.

Respect Their Choices

At times it is difficult to approve going out in mismatched clothes or awkward placement of chairs in your kids' room but approve it anyway.

Respecting choices of your children helps them grow as an individual. This also teaches them decision making and learning the consequences of their decisions.

Create Rituals

Eat meals as a family and create rituals such as bedtime stories and more. Sticking to these makes family life vibrant and predictable. Predictability gives kids a sense of protection and safety. Visit www.marham.pk to consult with any doctor online.
