You know when you were a teenager and had zits and braces — well ok not necessarily zits and braces — but you know, that one horrible picture you hide carefully somewhere so noone can ever find it…
remember how you’d still believe in a better self image when you project yourself in the future? nearly every teenager does this subconsciously: everyone believes in a certain self imbetterment without quite knowing how it will happen.
To me, this natural transition also exists in every big-shot-entrepreneur’s life.
Every Entrepreneur had his own kind of “zits and braces” yet believed in a better outcome: it’s the Prepreneur phase. Many call it: the Wantrepreneur phase, but that’s a statement filled with judgement and shame, I rather say Prepreneur. here’s what a Prepreneur phase looks and feels like:
“damn I have all these ideas….”: every Prepreneur is at first lost between a range of potential great ideas, he may or may not pick one to work on, but they’re always there, in his head and he carries them around and presents them as if he was sure the transition will be that he one day makes them happen.
“soo freaking little time…”: every Prepreneur thinks there’s never really enough time. admit it, you’ve been there too, time management is a skill that matures up with time, after maybe some years of being an Entrepreneur.
“ but I don’t understand a shizzle about X and Z..”: be it law restrictions to set up a company or other more tehnical issues, Prepreneurs love to believe that’s why they’re stuck.
“ if only I knew how they funded all these things!”: it’s all about the money money money…said Jessie J not me, it really isn’t about the money, but again, at the Prepreneur stage the entrepreneurship understanding is beginning to shape itself.
“ crap I must’ve changed this concept like a 100 times”: yes, a concept only becomes a concept after many and many think and rethink processes! you’re not crazy or paranoid, every i-know-it-all had a know-nothing-at-all phase!
Prepreneurship is as important as Entrepreneurship: one comes without question before the other, just like one can’t grow a seed into a tree in a day!
Why so shameful about a process that’s necessary for growth then? every Prepreneur needs space to create, FREEDOM TO FAIL and pick it up again. Everytime we bump into the man with the ideas but no concrete plan, we should listen, encourage their growth, and you bet, you might meet the same clueless man with his own company and far more mature than when he started.
give up calling dreamers “wantrepreneurs”, it’s a shame stamp we stick on people so they fear the path we’re on!
Love your Prepreneur self, Live it fully, and believe in the next destination.
