living in a big city can be a blessing of opportunities or a curse of losing who you really are if you can mange to find your way to the blessing it will be like a heaven on earth and it would be impossible to go anywhere else in the world
It's kinda hard to know the story of big cities but after some searching and going over some old magazines I can proudly say I knew the full story and I'm going to share it with you guys before talking about advantages and disadvantages of big cities.
the story began when an old man called Hawred (in the 19th century) was writing a letter to his wife telling her that what their family really needs is "a big house with a beautiful garden around it" and at that time London was living a mess as it was reported from several people "In every poor neighborhood there were dirty houses where one, two or three families lived and in one of the cellars there were a widow, three of her children and a forth child who died and not buried "
Hawerd's idea was that no city's population should be more than 500000.
Days went by and his idea was proved to be wrong as we now have big cities that its population is more than 10 million people.
So here's some of my thoughts about big cities. First of all BIG CITIES have the world's most powerful source which is humans. A lot of people live in big cities, a lot of people move to big cities and according to our experiment in the past years we can't stop that but a recent study (Exactly in 2011) showed that we don't need to stop this move from the country to cities. And here's why ?!!
Big cities allows people to get better services. It creates opportunities. It's easier to find jobs in big cities. And maybe (if you are lucky enough) to achieve your Dreams.
As for the environmental people who are harder to convince!! But people in cities use public transportation more often which is better for the environment and they use less electricity because they live in smaller homes (apartments). Also their water and electrical lines are shorter so they use less energy. One last thing cities allows half of the people who live on earth to live on 4% of the land which allows more lands to be planted.
On the other hand it will be completely not fair or true to say that cities doesn't have a down side.
You know! the thing about cities that it's fast and sometimes in the middle of that you forget the way back to the true you. Back to the few good friends or the loyal family. Also the ethical side holding on to your beliefs in cities is harder than holding on to them in the country! But if you can over come those two problems, living in cities shouldn't be a problem for you.
Here's some of my suggestions :-
• You can remind yourself to call back home often
• Arrange a gathering for you and your best friends every week at least doing anything together
• Write what Steven R. covey called a life message for example “I ………. Promise not to let go of my beliefs which are ……..etc and to be……….etc”
• Visit your family back home (if could) in holidays or at least every four months
