They say kids tend to adapt to what they see and hear around them. And perhaps that’s also why some people yell at others, or why they become a bit violent by throwing things or hurting others physically.
Maybe at some point in life, they’ve seen adults do the same. And when they asked them why they’d do that, the only answer they could give was “I was just really mad.”
Maybe that’s what some people grew up believing in; that when you’re mad, you shout at people or hurt them. And maybe it’s been normalized to such an extent that they do the same thing growing up whenever they’re mad.
But I wonder how would things turn out if we hug the person we’re having a fight with. It would be awkward with people we’re not necessarily close with but I’m talking about the people whom we communicate with the most; parents, siblings, friends, and lovers.
We usually hug people for comfort and to feel at peace. And come to think of it; when we're mad at someone we love, does the anger or hatred we feel in the heat of the moment outstrips the love we have for them?
It's a silly thought. But perhaps, in some sense, a simple hug could cancel out those raging feelings we have.
Perhaps things would cool down a bit at some point. Perhaps both people would refrain from saying or doing things they would regret after.
And perhaps relationships wouldn’t go down the cliff as much as they do these days.
But we’re all too prideful and awkward to do resort to such simple action that we’d rather cut ties with them or have broken relationships rather than talk things out and fix it.
And it’s just sad to think about.
