Time- 11:00 AM, Saturday
In his room Robin is sitting on his chair with the book named Signal systems on the table trying to understand the concepts of digital signals & system analysis. Robin is pursuing Electronics & Communications Engineering in the college named BBDNITM of city Lucknow. The semesters are only one and a half month far. He is in the first semester of the final year of his graduation. He wishes to increase his aggregate so he doesn’t want to leave any concept undone. A knock on his room door disrupts his attention.
“Who’s it?” Robin asked looking at the closed door.
“Robin, it’s me Jerry.” came a loud voice from outside.
Robin gets up to open the door. He opens it.
“What happened?” Robin asked looking at him.
“Dude! Come into my room. It would be fun. Graham has got phone numbers of few girls living in the girls’ hostel. We have planned a prank.” Jerry explained with excitement.
“Are you crazy?” Robin replied as he sees Graham, Dennis & Thomas standing on the doorway of his room with grins on their faces.
Robin lives in a private hostel where every floor comprises two rooms with the doors facing each other.
“Come on! It’s going to be fun buddy.” Thomas asserted.
Robin explains, “I was studying today and…”
“Studying! Dude… The semesters are one and a half month away. After 3 years being an average in the college, are you planning to top the 4th year?” Graham commented.
“Show off!” Dennis remarked and all started laughing loudly.
“You shut up!” Robin replied and giggles. He agrees, comes out of the room and locks the door. Everybody gathers on the Jerry’s bed.
“So what’s the plan?” Robin asked to which Graham shows him the list of some phone numbers.
“We are going to dial these numbers one by one. Whosoever girl would pick up the call; we would say that we are calling from the FM studio and your number has been chosen for the recording session. This recording would be played tomorrow morning.” Graham explained.
“Could we ask them to sing a song as well like they do in the real time scenario?” Thomas asked cheerfully.
“Of course! We would ask them to tell us a song, or to imitate somebody, and the person to whom they would like to dedicate that song. We would also ask them to sing 2-3 lines of it.” Graham explained further.
“Dude! Where did you get these numbers from?” Robin asked.
“Hey brother! Gather In The Harvest, Why Count The Stalks?” Jerry stated and everyone titters.
“Ok then who is gonna start first?” Robin asked in reply.
“It’s Jerry first.” Graham answered.
Jerry dials the first number and puts the phone on the speaker.
“Hello!” replies a soft voice.
Jerry says joyfully, “Hi, I am Jerry speaking from 154.3 FM and may I know with whom I am speaking with?”
“Its Jennifer.” came the reply with a smile.
“Hi Jennifer, I wish to share the news with you that you’re phone number is selected for the recording session. So Congratulations!”
Jerry gestures his boys for the claps and everybody applauds.
“Wow! Thank You.” Jennifer replied.
The lads give Hi-fives to each other softly and laugh silently.
“So Jennifer let me tell you first that it’s not live; we are recording in the studio.” Jerry informed her.
“Oh is it? Around what time would it be live tomorrow?” Jennifer asked curiously.
“Tomorrow sharp at 0700 hrs. So according to the ritual today you have to imitate somebody.” Jerry continued the conversation.
“Ok. There is our Electrical subject teacher I would like to copy.” Jennifer said.
“Oh! Wow that’s great.” Jerry said winking at his friends.
“Ok… Le’me try!” Jennifer said and starts copying the tone of her teacher.
The group dissolves on bed laughing silently as she continues with the impersonation. Graham tee-hees putting his right palm on the belly while Robin grins along with his other mates, staring at each other.
“Ok That’s it!” Jennifer said quickly after ending the imitation.
Jerry, smiling, but still manages to say, “Wow! That was a great mimicry. I am sure your teacher would like it after hearing this.”
Jennifer smiles in return.
“Alright, thanks for your time Jennifer. Our show would be live tomorrow morning. Have a good day. B’bye!” Jerrry said.
“Bye!” Jennifer replied and Jerry ends the call.
The group laughs like a drain.
“That was really second-rated brother.” Thomas commented.
“Seriously defective ending dude!” Robin exclaimed.
“Alright, alright. It’s time for the second number. Whose chance now?” Jerry said bringing the attention of the boys to the point.
“My turn now!” Graham said.
