Sarina Wiegman Brands Tiger Woods Tampon Incident 'Inappropriate'

Info

Sarina Wiegman, England women's soccer manager, has condemned Tiger Woods' decision to give Justin Thomas a tampon during the first round of the Genesis Invitational on Thursday as 'completely inappropriate'. Woods handed Thomas the female sanitary product during their round in California's desert on Wednesday morning.

This incident sparked furious reaction on social media, and Woods ultimately apologized at a press conference. Many are now wondering if this incident would deter young women from playing golf.

Lionesses coach Sarina Wiegman has branded Tiger Woods’s decision to give Justin Thomas a tampon ‘very inappropriate’.

Tiger Woods has come under fire for his'very inappropriate' act during their match in Hawaii in 2021, when he handed Justin Thomas a tampon during their match. Television cameras picked up on this remark as it played out during Tiger Woods' match against Justin Thomas at the Hawaii Sentry Tour of Champions tournament that year.

Celebrities, including golfing legend Nick Faldo, have swiftly condemned Woods' actions. But this is not the first time he's faced criticism for his decisions.

England defeated Germany 2-1 in extra time to claim their first major women's football trophy since 1966, as Manchester City forward Chloe Kelly scored her first international goal and ignited the 87,192 fans at Wembley with joy. Ella Toone opened the scoring with an exquisite chip from the bench but Lina Magull levelled before Kelly put the game away for good with her goal.

With the score tied at 1-1, both sides had plenty of chances to take advantage of. Striker Ellen White missed several good chances during normal time while Lucy Bronze was denied by the goalkeeper while Germany's Lina Magull drew a save from Leah Williamson before Toone made it 1-0.

England will begin this campaign in the Arnold Clark Cup, facing off against Italy at Coventry and South Korea at Milton Keynes a week on Thursday before facing Belgium in Bristol three days later. Additionally, they are involved in World Cup qualifying with games against Norway at St Helens on Tuesday, Japan at Manchester on Friday and Canada in Liverpool on Saturday.

Keira Walsh is set to be available for Sunday’s Arnold Clark Cup match against Italy at Coventry.

Keira Walsh is expected to be available for Sunday's Arnold Clark Cup match against Italy at Coventry after she was ineligible for England's 4-0 victory over Korea Republic on Thursday night. Lionesses coach Sarina Wiegman says she will use the game as an opportunity to test out her squad ahead of this summer's World Cup.

Walsh, considered one of the world's greatest centre midfielders, missed Saturday's victory due to a stomach bug but is expected to play in Sunday's match against an Italian team that she believes presents different tactical challenges. Walsh is likely to start in this second fixture which will be broadcast live on talkSPORT.

On Thursday, England's unbeaten streak under Wiegman was extended to 674 days. Additionally, their victory propelled them to the top of the round-robin competition table on goal difference ahead of Belgium - who had earlier defeated Italy 2-1 at Stadium MK.

Lauren James had a remarkable night, winning the penalty that Georgia Stanway scored to put England in the lead before adding her own goal early in the second half. Manchester City defender Alex Greenwood also stood out, playing left-back throughout much of the first half.

England’s World Cup squad is shaping up well.

On Monday, Gareth Southgate must make some difficult choices when he names his final England squad for the World Cup. With injuries to key players and doubts surrounding several others, selecting an effective squad is far from being a straightforward process.

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is one of the most experienced and reliable members of this squad - his tournament experience invaluable. His performances at Euro 2020 earned him a place among England's top five keepers, and he will be among Southgate's first names on the team sheet for Qatar 2022.

England manager has no shortage of attacking talent in his squad, with Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford likely to start on either left or right wing at the World Cup. Phil Foden and Jack Grealish - who both impressed against Ivory Coast - could also compete for a starting place alongside Ollie Watkins, Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Jadon Sancho.

West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice has established himself as a reliable starter for England and should be considered an automatic selection. Mason Mount, who made his debut against India in Qatar and showed promise with an impressive performance, could also be considered.
