Side effects of Being Kind

Once there lived a mighty Lion in a dense forest. It was then it became a Lion from a cub. It had a bushy mane which glittered with the sunshine and its claws were as sharp as an Eagle's. The forest was full of lush vegetatation and so it naturally became the residence of countless animals. Tigers, Giraffes, Rhinoceros, Antelopes, Apes, Bisons, Foxes, Jackals, Hyenas, Venomous snakes, Vultures, Kiwis, Ostriches and much more animals filled the forest.

The Lion, though it is strong enough to kill any of the animals in the forest, he always went to the nearby forest for a hunt. It was because he had concern to every other animals of that forest and believed them as his kith and kin. On knowing this, the animals of the forest overcame their fear for the Lion and became good friends. The Lion was jovial with every single animal of the forest and he went to great lengths in order to protect them from the predators of other forests.

Every animal wanted to spend some time with the Lion as he listen with patience to whatever they talk or blabber. Whatever the problem is, the Lion always had a solution to everyone's problem as he was fond of solving the life riddles of others. One day a tigress came to him and wept that her parents have left her in that forest and moved to a nearby forest for their food and breed. This little tigress couldn't move off from the forest where she was born and spent the happiest moments of her life. The Lion consoled her and went to her parents and requested them to come back to the forest and promised them that he would provide heaps of meat from the nearby forest on a daily basis. Those tigers after listening to the Lion, came back to their residence and the tigress thanked him in gratitude. Once he saved a baby vulture which was born few hours ago from a snake which tried to crawl to the vulture's nest.

The Lion was too kind to ignore them and so He always allotted some good time to be with these animals. Neither was he dependent nor was he partial to them, yet the Lion always made them happy for no reasons. He had a healing tone of voice with which every animal found peace when they were distressed.

Days passed by.. The lush green vegetations of the forest were casted with a dry spell. Drought struck the forest at once and the inmates of the forests became desperate for their next meal. Hunger and thirst made the animals quarrel for their food. Those Tigers, foxes, hyenas, jackals, vultures and venomous snakes have started killing the herbivoral inmates of the forest. Then came the day for the carnivores. They tried to kill one another and the Lion came over there and stopped them. He assured that he'd get rodents from the nearby forest to serve them all as he doesn't want them to kill since he loved everyone of them. He acted as per his words. He even sacrificed his own meal to quench the hunger of others. In a few days the Lion became feeble as he didn't eat anything in the past days. He wasn't able to get food to them anymore. Inspite of his, exasperation, He tried to move from his den to get them some food.

These other animals on knowing that he couldn't feed them anymore, they started to illtreat him. The reputation, the belief everything broke down. The hunger struck animals didn't wish to search for their food too. They came to the Lion. The Vulture which the lion had saved from the snake, swung through the air and pecked the right eye of the Lion. Unable to bear the pain, the Lion roared in fury and blood flooded his cheeks and jaws. Meanwhile the tigress which he'd helped to rejoin her family, pounced upon him and pricked him on his neck.
The Lion's claws became rigid at once, yet he didn't do anything as he didn't wish to hurt those with whom he was close. Sooner the hyenas, jackals and the foxes have joined the team and shreded the Lion into piece..

The blood stain and the wastes remained and the Lion was slaughtered by those whom he considered as kith and kin. The mighty, ethical Lion thus became a prey  to the frail beings. If not the Lion was kind to them, He would have been alive by now. Yet He chose to be good, and then perished.
