Silver lining

She left. She ran through the door, not glancing back once. It was a stormy night, the fury of nature was at its fullest. Just an hour before, she had made up her mind; the decision needed to be taken, so she took. The weather wasn’t her best friend then, as she looked out and saw the black clouds approaching. She knew, it was the calm before the storm and all the muddled thoughts in her head and the weather were just playing a trick on her to somehow avert the long pending actions. She looked back, at his freshly bathed hair and eyes which seemed till now, could look deep into her soul. She didn’t feel it anymore, but she was afraid what it might do to her otherwise, normal, smoothly running life. He came and sat beside her, appreciating the oncoming weather in the far end. She grew restless in his comforting arms and made an excuse to move away. The winds started getting stronger and the raindrops pouring. He pulled her closer, called her to lie down next to him, but all she could think about was what she knew was coming. She lay there, empty, blank and expressionless, evasive. He sensed she wasn’t in the right mood so, he interrogated and what he heard wasn’t something he saw coming. It is the sound of both her words and the thunder outside that were playing in his ears. He was at a loss of words which made her decision stronger. After having exhausted herself, she let herself painfully out. Every step she took was as heavy as an iron ball stuck to her feet, but she dragged on her and found herself out alone in the storm. Was she right? Had she let go too soon or was the weather been her accomplice in the quick escape? Her thoughts were as crowded as before, but now she didn’t have the baggage of her years old bond, or bondage perhaps! The heavy droplets and the ruthless wind wayward her direction where she ran here and there for refuge, soon to find shelter in a close by empty bus-stand. She sat there, clutching herself, not because she was wet, but her heart was pounding in her chest so loudly that she sensed it would just fall out. She let the much awaited tears out, letting it dissolve with the rain, leaving no trace. The weather eased hours later, letting the sun out for a little mercy, but she didn’t see this transformation for she had hours earlier drowned into oblivion. She was awakened by a loud honk and she stared at the car in front of her. The stormy night had finally passed and a new day awaited her. She composed herself and helped him find his way. It was then, that she realized, she would too, find her way.
