Unspoken
‘I love you’
Those three syllables
Boiled down to this moment
Without a cinematic exposition
Just two people standing.
Trying to read unspoken words,
In each other’s eyes.
The world around me did not stop.
Everything in its own motion.
‘I love you too’
The expression is frozen on my lips.
The weight and the wait too hard to bear
Timeless dreams leading to a single memory
To be created or ripped apart
A painful reminder of the nights spent under a starry sky
Eyes wandering across the teeming millions
To fixate upon one.
But that is a thought forbidden
Words, if uttered will lead;
To an eternal love filled pain
‘I love you’
Hopeful eyes look into mine
Lips slightly parted.
Begging me to drown them in a kiss
Oh! Those dreams
They taunt me at this moment
Sneer at my immobility.
She stands tall.
Yet shoulders ready to be defeated
in that moment of silence.
A step closer. A step backwards
A dance of longing/escape.
Rhythm less breathing
Hearts beating in sync.
My heart, she already has
Hers, I dare not ask/have.
No, a life of blissful doom she does not deserve
‘I love you too’
Feelings escape my eyes
My mouth betrays none.
I walk away.
