A gamer’s dilemma
Hello! I am hibari. Nice to meet you. I am a video gamer, your hard core one. Of course just like a real gamer I live in two worlds – the real world and my gamer world! But, life is unfair and it put me through a very tough situation, it made me go through the gamer’s dilemma. Yes, life made me choose between the real world and my gamer world, the most difficult situation. Both the worlds have their pros and cons. In the end, I did make a decision. I did choose a world and do you want to know why I chose that world? It was because I lost hope on the other one. Now let me tell you the story of how I went through the dilemma…..
It all started in the year of 2016 with the introduction of multi-dimensional helmet technology by the Rockstar Company. It was a helmet that gave you real life experiences in games. You felt like you were living in the game. It was an invention by the Rockstar company, the company that owed its fame and finances to its (GTA) Grand Theft Auto franchise. The company wanted to try out its new fantasy game called Grand Theft world (GTW). It was a game filled with blooming cities on one side and dangerous unexplored land on another side. It was a game of unknown missions. Rockstar wanted to test trial their game, so for that purpose, they hired 64 best gamers to complete it. Our aim was easy, complete the set of missions allotted, bring vast riches from the game and come back and live your life well settled. There was only one life in it which was a real mood killer. A game with just one life is disappointing. But apart from that, the game was phenomenal. I was part of the 64 gamers. I was among the top three, so they had quite high expectations from me. They gave us no instructions or any set of advice. They told us to expect the unexpected and go on to enjoy it. Many complained and demanded some info on the game but they refused and in return gave us one quote that stopped our whining and got our adrenaline rushing. Their words were,”you are gamers, different species! Humans fear the unknown, you don’t! Just go and charge on!!”. With the gushing flow of inspiration in us, we charged into the game…….
Of course, by charging I mean being set up by thousand of wires and the helmets. The procedure you know. It all took an hour which was enough for our inspiration to wane off, well at least most of it. And then, the time finally came. At last we were going into the game. They injected us with a sedative and it all became a blur. I woke up to a door in front of me. A shiny blue door. I opened it and a bright stream of light flashed across me. I entered the door found myself in the first city of the game, the LOS angelon city. My adventure started then. Many of my fellow gamers were around me and all of them immediately started their missions. whereas I preferred to enjoy the game a little. Such a nice little world, full of unknown things! What joy it gave me to be in the game. My ecstasy of being in the game was destroyed the very next instance by the voice in our earphone that said,” lose a life here, lose it back home too! Be careful, you have been warned.” These words sent our lives in chaos. Such a mood killer….
Three months later, we were accustomed to the game. four out of our total lot had already lost their life. Twelve gamers’ fate were unknown. The remaining were trying to finish their missions quickly. The game was a strange world, some parts of city fully developed, other parts not even touched. Some parts were rich with resources while the others felt like total barren. Our missions often revolved around securing these resources and sending it back to our base i.e. LOS angelon. Our missions were of various types, but the most horrifying were the assassination missions. many cities boasted of wonderful civil and social system of working. Security was so tight in these cities that assassinations were utterly impossible here! Or they would have been if we didn’t have the ‘cheats’. ’Cheats’ just like in gta games, granted up special powers. Summoning tanks, bazookas, infinite stamina are some of the few examples. Missions with their help were just piece of cake! For assassinations, the best cheat was the manipulating one. You could take control of a game character and make him do your bidding easily. He was totally under your control and you could aid him with other cheats to accomplish the missions. It made you feel like a mastermind behind the crime, a role I thoroughly I enjoyed! I was on my 35th mission currently and the mission was to assassinate the mayor of Buxorg city. So easy! Took control of his secretary and assassinated him during his visit to his daughter. It is my policy not to be near the assassinating place but I do not why but this time I was nearby and keeping a check on the secretary. And that was when I saw the most shocking scene of my life. Tears in his daughter’s eye. Real tears. Tears that can’t be animated in a game. The words that she spoke next opened my eyes,” Curse you MINAP virus!! Let us live our life in peace”. She knew the name MINAP. MINAP was the name of our mind controlling cheat. And the, the truth hit me……
We remained low for next six months. During those months, I spread the real truth among the remaining 50 gamers. The real truth was that we were not in a game or something, we were in a different world, in a different dimension. This world was being controlled by our earth that was exploiting all its resources through us. Everything around us was real and that was why we could die in this world. Our conscious was not just transported to this world, we were fully sent to it. Everything was real, the world, us and all the emotions. Our earth was exploiting this ‘GTW’. In the last few months, I had come to love this world. It was the dream gamer world. Now this exploitation by the earth really pissed me off and I was instantly in favour of its independence. Many shared my views and joined me to form the group of rebels. Rest allied with the Rockstar company and tried to hunt us all. We kept low for couple months and planned our attack. We waited for the opportunity and when it came knocking to us, we immediately seized it…..
GTW and earth are connected by dimensional door, the blue door that I entered through. It was the only mean of travel through the dimensions. Our plan was to destroy it. We sneaked into the base in the LOS angelon city when they were stocking u-335 a highly reactive resource found here. We were able to easily sneak into the building owing to their attention being concentrated on u-335. We fought with the allied gamers. They were of low rank, they were the ones who were more interested in making money than playing a game. they were just minions in front of us and we massacred them. We were in total 23 and with our wonderful abilities and number, were able to conquer the base in a matter of hours. Then we came face to face with the door and when we barged into it, we found ourselves in the presence of CEO of Rockstar company. G.O.D. words were displayed on top of him. “the words stand for Generator Of Door. The door that you entered is under my control. I am here to protect it.” He spoke. We all remained stunned because we had no idea on how to harm the door. We never thought we would reach this far. Seeing us speechless, he continued “this world is wonderful. This GTW. Full of resources. Full of power. It was a pity it was in hands of idiots. We found it by mistake, you know. Through the errors of game coding, we found a new dimension. A real stunner to us. Apparently computers could connect us to this dimension. Initially, we were just observers. We had no means of physically affecting them. That was until we found the dimensional door code. A code that made it possible for us to go into the world. We implemented it in a machine and produced this door in front of you. We sent many teams to this world, we got a lot of results, but there were many casualties. Input was greatly more than the output. It was then that we decided to send gamers to this world. It was the best idea ever. Gamers came up with the cheats, with ideas and plans. Then we sent you top sixty four gamers to the world and with your epic decision making, phenomenal intellect and your inspiring bravery, we got the most out of this world. We are really thankful to you.” He concluded. We all were stunned with his explanation. One question was roaming in everyone’s mind,” why is he telling us everything?”. On hearing the question, he gave us the most twisted answer,” you see, I have heard that gamers are real curious about the story of the game. I felt that we owe you this much knowledge at least. Afterall, it is game over for you guys”. Instantly from his back came 10 armed soldiers. His turn was done, it was now our time. Yes we had no plan on how to destroy the dimensional door, but fighting humans? That was piece of cake for us! What did humans fear the most? The unknown. I produced a little butterfly from my pocket. I said, ” Interesting thing this little butterfly. It is inhabitant of an island far off in the sea in GTW. Most curious thing, it gives out hypnotizing powder through his wings to kill humans and then lay eggs on their body. Did you know? It is capable of total human extinction.”my word had shivered him a little. “what do you want to prove through it?”he asked. “it is one of the 10 million unknown species found in GTW. Say someone was to release into earth? What do you think would happen? i asked. My question left him speechless. “ Ignorance is definitely the eighth sin. Those who don’t know their limits, can’t survive in the world. You foolish humans think you can defeat gamers? Ones who face with unknown on daily basis? We enjoy the unknown, you fear it. Say if we were to allow an unknown disease pass on to earth? You won’t even be able to face it.”I concluded my speech. The word ‘unknown’ had a deep affect of him. He was left stunned. Humans backed out from GTW in fear. We succeeded in driving them away. With time, we were able to solve the dimensional door problem too. We brought out order in GTW and lived as its kings. We went through many adventures and lived our life to the fullest….
This is how I chose the gamer world over the earth. I lost hope on earth and lived in GTW forever. An action that I never regret....
