The Midnight Hawk

                                                   THE MIDNIGHT HAWK

He was bleeding severely. Obviously nobody would entertain a guy like Tojo especially when he has a certain reputation of hooliganism throughout his mafia career. Still he knocked the wooden doors. The clock in the drawing room striked 2 at the night as Adi opened the door with a pair of half opened eyes. Shock was the feeling which filled his nerves leading him go statue for a couple of minutes. “Shelter for the night only”, said Tojo and broke the chain of silence.

Though Adi let him inside but still a dilemma haunted him, the dilemma about whether it is right to provide lodging to an anti-social or, the dilemma about whether he will be at any kind of risk or, the dilemma about whether to show his back to a childhood friend who is in need. To the contrary to these thoughts Tojo broke the silence once more, “You will not have to face any of the problems because of me and its my word”. “Shut the fuck up!”- Suddenly the disgusted Adi came out of his voice. “You are an anti-social and your wounds say loudly enough that you must have been busy attending another bloody settlement, why don’t you leave all these bull shits?” Cleaning the wounds with a piece of cotton Tojo tried to explain, “Listen buddy, I may be a criminal or an anti-social or a mafia or a hooligan or whatever but I will go on breaking the asses of those bastards.” Moving towards the fridge Adi murmured, “So today you are in a mood to explain your foul jobs! That’s awesome.” Tojo smiled back and nodded.

As they opened the caps of their beer bottles Tojo convinced him enough that he will make Adi understand his business. “I really do not have any minimum interest in your political business. But I am just listening to this piece of crap because of you only fucker,” said Adi as he took sip from his bottle. Tojo started, “I know public is afraid of me, even you my friend. To be really frank I wanted to see this fear in the eyes of public from years. Public(s)- this is a very confusing term buddy. Quite a few people gather and we call them public, now these people have interests of their own individually and as far as democracy is concerned we should call publics a group of people with a common interest and point of view. Thus this point is pretty clear why I hate these so called Public(s).”

“And where is this subject relevant to your profession?” Adi queried finishing half of his beer, “All these is because you have enough political powers, isn’t it?” “Bingo! That’s my point bro. The acts of these publics like creation of rumors, hypocrisy, pulling others down, criticizing others and above all staying silent during all the wrong deeds- all these make me mad, mad hard at them. Ah! Those good for nothing fellows. Moreover, I work for these fucking politicians and I provide the chair for them and in return I do my business with all my freedom, with all protection and I get paid too.” Tojo stopped to take another sip and settled himself a bit more comfortably in the sofa. He started again, “I earn my own bread by knocking down other people who creates problem for other innocent people who do not have enough power or connections and in this course those people pay me.” “As in?” asked Adi while Tojo replied, “Suppose some son of a bitch assaulted a girl whose father couldn’t do anything or, any promoter did not pay enough to his labours or, they contact me and I break the ass down of those scroundels! In return they pay me back with juicy cheques. This is kinda service providing you know kiddo.” “And what if they don’t have enough money to pay you back?” Adi arouse a valid question but this time the answer came back in a cold voice, “I built relationships with them, like a family. On the other hand they help me out with their votes to my candidates.”

“That’s absolutely fine, but what favor does your politician dadas do to you?” Adi interrogated once more as the topic got a bit more interesting. “When the action gets critical or the people whom I punch or kick in the ass is someone heavyweight, my politicians take me out of any kind of trouble, as simple as that buddy,” explained the anti-social.

Now the curious and disgusted Adi felt an urgency to query about today’s action, “Forget all those shits and do you have any real reason to explore about the dumbass job you did today? Your blood has just stopped exposing from your skin. I really feel ashamed when I recall you as my friend.” Probably he was feeling a bit of unsafe with his “Anti-social friend” because he had weapons with him and was under the influence of alcohol. Tojo did not react nor did any rough activity to justify himself; rather he threw a cold smile in the eyes of his friend. Surprising Adi he took his hand in his own pair and described, “I booked a bed in the hospital for a crazy fucker tonight. You won’t believe who that lucky bastard is but the truth says that it is my elected politician Dada. I screwed him up but did not murder, just broke his left leg and organized for half a dozen stitches in his forehead.”

“What the fuck!!! Have you gone out of your nuts and balls? You did the action with the one who provides you security; even more than that you followed your job to my place for shelter, I am surely going to be sucked to death by those dirty dickhead politicians. Why did you do it damned? For god shake will you leave my place? Please, will you? They will surely find me and kill me.” afraid Adi stated all these in a single breathe. But more surprises were waiting for Adi as Tojo paid him back with some more indigestive notes, “That son of a bitch had an eye on you Adi,” Tojo completed his quota of drinks and continued “He observed that you were trying hard to pull me back of this business and thus appointed a supari killer to stab you to death, I came to know it from my reliable sources and took action immediately. Moreover you do not have to worry about this because soon after the action I scratched my arm with this sharp knife and lodged complaint in the police station and there is no cop in this area who will not work with my words. His imprisonment for life is just a matter of time.”

Spellbound Adi saw a couple of roll of tears sliding beneath the eyes of his friend. He saw Tojo crying for the first time in his life. Trying to hide the tears Tojo further explained, “Just a bit out of the track, are you happy with the system which this society posses? Don’t you want to change it? The answer is yes, actually everyone wants this fucking society to change and I am of no exception and as such my friend you are also anti-social but without a tag.”

What would have been the climax, Adi jumped over to the sofa and hugged his friend tight to his chest and whispered in Tojo’s ears, “Fucking crazy anti-social”.
