Story: Phantom (Published)

Chapter 01

Jezmi Sartel was one of the infamous villain in the online story Chloe had been faithfully following no matter how slow and long she waited for the update.

She also is one of the very few villain characters that she feels closest to in the multiple stories she had ever read. Even when the novel was finally completed, she still couldn't forget her. To the point that she asked the author for Jezmi's backstory. Even though it wasn't given in a story form, the author was kind enough to give her detailed information during her initial days of plotting the story, and she fell even more for her.

Jezmi doesn't feel like a mere story character. For Chloe, she feels more real than even the supposed protagonist of the story, even though her scenes were limited from the main character. She feels the connection with her. Like she could have been her in another world.

Now that she finds herself being her upon opening her eyes after dying in a laboratory, alone and without anyone that cares for her, she did not feel any sort of rejection or disbelief.

She merely felt surprised seeing that she is alive and became someone that she actually sympathized with and liked. It was just like the body was hers from the very start.

Chloe felt the lethargy in the body she's occupying as she sat up on the large bed she is in.

"Jezmi isn't a morning person?" she mumbled in surprise. She did not know that. She's the same as me, she thought.

She looked around the room she supposed is her body's bedroom.

It's a small room but looked cozy and clean. She's currently in a single, comfortable bed full of fluffy pillows just the window overlooking the view outside their house. There's a small cabinet drawer on the side of the bed and next to it is the door out of the room. There is also a cabinet for her clothes parallel to the bed.

The room clean and bright. Calming too. Everything is in their proper places and not a single thing was out of place.

In other words, the room is beautiful. It perfectly fits what she wanted in her room if she was ever allowed to decorate.

Someone knocked on her door suddenly.

"Jezmi, are you awake honey?" a soft voice asked.

"Leave her mom. She loves sleeping more than anything else. Let her. Maybe that's her ability?" a strong sarcasm could be heard on the second voice. At once she realized who those two women were.

The one who knocked on her door was her mom, Thea and that second voice that made her raise her eyebrow was her older sister, Cora.

In the novel, the Sartel family was only passingly told as they don't really appear in it. The family doesn't have that much of a connection with the protagonist.

Not to mention that the entire family had already died. Massacred is the proper word.

She'd only known more about them due to them being a part of the background story of the main villain character, Jezmi.

Which she now occupies.

According to the information she got, Thea Sartel is a gentle and kind woman. She loves all her children equally but feels sad about her daughter's supposed non-ability status.

Cora, on the other hand, simply dislikes her being a mundane. She completely agrees with what outsiders days that she is a stain in the family of ability users as everyone believes that the youngest daughter of the Sartel family is a mundane. But even though she's like that, and their displeasure with each other is completely mutual, they are family. They were always there for each other when needed and teams up when necessary.

Though her older sister's arrogance leaves a bad taste in her mouth, Jezmi loves and trusts her more than any of her closest friends.

"Cora!" her mother rebuked her sister in a soft, yet dismayed voice.

"Awake mom," she called out in a sleepy voice to stop her sister from further talking. Although she did not get the memories of Jezmi, she knows that her kind mother would feel pained seeing her daughters at each other's throats.

There was silence beyond the door for a few seconds before she heard Cora's voice fading away. Obviously, she was going down the stairs.

"A miracle. She's awake all by herself." Just from that alone, the earlier words of her sister and the way this body feels, she could already form the personality of the original Jezmi.

A lazy person who likes sleeping. She can't help but grin at that, feeling the obvious stretch of her lips even as it was only a tiny one. And someone not used to smiling.

She felt happy finding some similarities between her and the original Jezmi. Doesn't it feel like they really are one and the same? Just in a different world?

Wouldn't that mean that, at some point in her life, in another world, she had a loving family?

"Honey, get ready now! Breakfast is ready!" she could hear the delight in her mother's voice as she told her that.

"Okay mom." She heard her mother's footsteps going down the stairs while she hummed. She felt like the original Jezmi doesn't really get to join her family in breakfast.

She felt a deep pain in her heart.

Immediately, she remembered the fate of the Sartel family. Massacred. Killed without mercy. Sacrificed their lives just to get Jezmi to safety, their youngest and they believed the most innocent in the family.

Jezmi was left alone, in pain, bitter, full of anger and thirsty for vengeance. which, in the end, she did not even get.

Because the female lead believed that massacring her family isn't enough justification for her to kill that person.

She protected a murderer.

She could actually feel the deep anger and pain in the body's heart immediately upon remembering that scene in the book. She began became alarmed.

She felt that her soul came into this body immediately after she died. Was the original perhaps still alive when she took over? How did she manage to snatch this body when she did not remember every fighting?

At once, with the time seemingly stopping, she saw in front of her a ghost-like smoke with the same face as the body she is occupying appearing right in front of her. Only looking like a more mature and well developed adult version of herself.

Her eyes full of bitterness, anger and hopelessness, she pleaded.

"Please, save my family."
