Table tennis appeared at the end of the nineteenth century. The ancestor of this entertainment was ping-
pong, which was popular in 1891. Previously, there were mentions of him, but the names were different:
Flim-Flam, Vif-Vaf and Gossima. All these entertainments had the same mechanics: two players stand
opposite each other near a small table and take turns hitting each other with a special ball with round
rackets. Now the name Ping-Pong belongs to a similar type of game, which differs from table tennis in the
grip of a racket and a ball.
Although in the usual sense only two players can participate in the game at the same time, according to
the standards of the federation, tennis can be designed for a different number of players. In total, there
are four disciplines in which athletes can receive categories: single tennis, doubles, mixed and team. In
the largest version, the team can have up to five people.
Each tennis round always ends with the award of points to one of the teams. Moreover, you can get
points not only thanks to your skills, but also due to the opponent’s mistake. So, if the ball bounced on the
opponent's side and was not rebounded, your opponent loses points. If there was no rebound and the ball
went out of bounds, you will lose the advantage. So the game will continue until one of the participants
scores eleven points. This threshold was set by the Table Tennis Federation in 2001.
Rules of the game
The rules of table tennis are quite simple, but you need to learn them before you start the battle. In
competitions, the game consists of several games. Each of them has draws. This is the time at which the
ball remains in play. This moment begins with the first hit on the ball with a racket until it falls, when one
of the participants did not hit it.
To determine the server (this is the name of the person who starts the rally), use the toss. After that, the
right of the first throw will be transferred every two draws. Modern rules also limit the score of the game:
the game ends when one of the participants scores eleven points. It happens that two athletes scored ten
points each. Then the rules change a little: now the serve passes to another athlete every turn, and the
game continues until one of the champions has a lead of two points. Since the year 2015, a change has
been made, due to which it is permissible to consider that the winner was the participant who received the
next point.
