With tear in the corner of her eyes, she blurted out, " I HATE YOU!!! Don't show me your face again...." and ran away...
She ran back to her house and cried her heart out. Played the betrayal scene in her mind over and over again. Her heart didn't want to believe what her eyes had seen. She had clearly seen his door to be opened by that other girl. The half dressed girl clearly told her, they had spent a wonderful night and that he is sleeping so do not disturb him. Who was she to tell her so! They had been in a relationship for 2 years...but she was shocked thus left.
He froze... "I HATE YOU..." was strong words for him to believe but he knew she meant it. It was in her eyes, the very same eyes which meant "I LOVE YOU.." years ago. Confusion struck him as to what had he done to make her hate him such. He was trying to find reason in his memory of the last night. He went to a party, with her. She left early as she had to go to college early the next day for the last time, but their friends were there so he had to stay back. It was too late when they planned to return, but there were a few girls in the group and their house was far so he had let them stay at his place and left with a friend to stay with him. In the morning he came back late and went straight to college to meet her and she was in tears shouted the words ans ran away...before he could react. He tried calling her several time after that, several messages were also sent to ask what exactly happened but no reply. He went to her house but it was locked, called several friends, no one knew about her whereabouts, he finally gave up...
Years passed, she was working in a different city, her boss called her in. She knew it was about a new client allocation, but as boss revealed the name her smile vanished. But she couldn't say no, she came out of the office with watery eyes. All those years of hatred and still his name brought a tear. She wiped it off and started working on the project. She was a wedding planner and had to plan his wedding (out of all people on the face of the earth). A meeting was fixed over lunch.
He was waiting at the table overlooking the sea for the wedding planner, hearing the tapping sound on the heels he turned to face her...all those years of hatred yet his heart skipped a beat on seeing her face. He turned away to avoid her, thinking she has come for some one else.
With a straight face she came and stood in front of the table, " Hello, Mr. Oberoi...sorry for making you wait."
"As always...not a problem Ms. Kapoor?" his eyes questioning her about her marital status.
"Yes" as she settled down opposite him. "So, I believe you are getting married to?"
"No, cannot trust another girl, its not my wedding, Bhaiya is the unlucky one..." he gave a sheepish smile and looked into her eyes.
"Oh...so I would like to talk to your brother..." looking away she prepared to leave.
" Why? Is it because you want to avoid me...again...if so then that is not gonna work this time, it took me years to find you and this time I want a reply.."
" What reply are you demanding!! I owe none to you after your cheap act I have nothing to say. You cheated me!"
"Cheated!!! How" with anger she clasps her hand and make her sit down and told her everything that had happened that night. He told her that the girl played a prank on her and their relationship fell for it.
At the end of his long speech, she was left teary eyed. All the years both of them carried the burden of hatred with a lot of pain and when they faced each other tears rolled down with that hatred. Neither spoke for a long time, her hand was still in his, and she smiled, " I hate you..."
He planted a kiss on her hand, " I hate you too..."
Thus the burden of hatred drowned in their sea of love...
With love,
Sanjukta.
