Demeter's favourite daughter who was named Persephone ,
roamed through the meadows as the mid summer sun shone .
the Lord of Underworld who was attracted by her beauty ,
decided to win her heart and forgot his duty .
When all his plans failed to get her attention ,
the Lord of Underworld planned of an abduction .
As the daughter of Demeter roamed around growing her favourite flower ,
the ground split open and came out a chariot which radiated unearthly power .
The astonished goddess was pulled in as the chariot began it's journey back down ,
the ground sealed shut leaving no clue except for the grass which turned yellowish brown .
When the news of the abduction reached Demeter she marched towards Persephone's father Zeus ,
who grumbled making the sky rumble and change the color to different hues .
Down in the underworld Persephone was battling hunger and was in pain ,
but she knew the fact that if she ate the food of underworld she will never see her mother again .
As Persephone roamed around in the Underworld she came across the garden of Hades ,
she was really surprised to see the different varieties of fruits , berries and cherries .
Persephone came across a fruit that feuled her hunger and woke her greed,
the fruit was none other than Pomegranate , the fruit of Underworld with seeds like red bead .
Persephone couldn't stop herself and ate six seeds of the fruit before she knew ,
at the palace gate of Hades the horn of messenger god Hermes blew .
A council of Olympian gods was called on to discuss the matter ,
As Hades entered Olympus all the gods gave him a look and began to chatter .
After hours of heated argument a settlement was reached ,
Persephone had to stay in Underworld for six months of a year for the rules she had breached .
Whenever Persephone was in Underworld plants withered and dried ,
while down in the Underworld Hades lived happily with his new bride .
After living in darkness for half a year ,
the goddess returns to her mother and helps in growing apples and pear .
