Think Twice.

My parents and I had gone to attend a wedding ceremony of a close relative. After all the traditional rituals, some of the guests, including my mother and I, began talking about incidents that can not be explained by natural causes.

Among us was a man, he had quite a strange face. He observed each speaker with his keen eyes but didn't utter a word. We all asked him why he was quiet and begged him to tell a story.

He agreed but before beginning his story, he asked, “How many of you believe in ghosts?” . As soon as he said this, everyone began laughing. One of the guests stood up and said, “ Ghosts? Everyone knows that ghost don’t exist!”

The man said, “Mister, You may want to think twice on that” and started his story.

“On the 15 of September, 1891, at midnight, I was driving my car on a lonely highway. I was on my way to my sister’s house but I had lost my way.

As I was late, I decided to speed up. Suddenly a lady in a red sari appeared in front of my car. I lost control over my car and my car unfortunately hit her.

I stopped my car and came out to see whether she was alright or not. By God’s grace she was alive but her face was covered in blood and she was unconscious. I rushed to the nearest hospital but as it was midnight it was closed and on the other-hand the lady had died. I felt so guilty that an innocent lady was no longer alive because of my carelessness.

As she was dead, I searched for a cemetery and buried her. But on taking her out of the car her purse was left on the backseat of my car.

Just about half an hour later, It started raining and my car also stopped working. I tried calling a mechanic but his phone was unreachable. Just then, another lady came to me and asked me whether I could drop her to her house as she had met with an accident.

I told her that my car wasn't working. She said, “I can fix this car for you, my husband is a mechanic, I have learnt a lot from him, but you must promise that once I fix your car you will drop me till my destination.”

I agreed to drop her. She then fixed my car, that too in less than a minute. I wonder how she did it so fast. Then as I had promised, I had to drop her till her house. She sat in the car, and I drove as she directed me.

In a few minutes, we reached her destination. She told me to stop the car and asked me whether she could take her purse from the backseat. I allowed her to do so.

I thought to myself, ‘Purse?’ that belonged to the lady who had died, I glanced at the windscreen, It was the same place where I had buried the dead lady. At that time I was very terrified.

I looked at the lady, She had worn the same red sari as the lady who had died had worn. I was now sure that she was the same lady who had died.

She smiled and soon faded away. And now she haunts me every now and then, she just doesn't let me live peacefully!

I wished I would have noticed her red sari earlier! I should have thought twice before agreeing to drop her to her house!”

“ So did you think twice?”, he asked the man who proclaimed ghosts don’t exist and slowly faded away.

After seeing him disappear into thin air, we all were horrified. I thought for a second , ‘15th September 1891?’, that was more than a hundred years ago!, How can a man living at that time still be alive?

“Ghost!!!”, I shouted, I had seen a ghost for real!, I guess the man was right, ghosts really exist. My greatest regret is that we didn't THINK TWICE before letting him continue the story, and now he haunts us, just like the lady used to haunt him and I guess, she was the one who killed him!
