I let Father's Day passed because I am waiting for this special day to tell you all that I wanted to say for this past months.
When I started reading that soldier's letter to his wife, I cried immediately. It may be directed to his family, but it felt like it was written for all the love one's of every soldier. I silently utter a prayer to be not put in that situation. Don't put us, me in that situation. Imagining it is already heartbreaking.
Now that another year has been added to your life, it's also a realization that another year has been deducted to your remaining days in this world. I pray that in between today and that day, we spend our time together more meaningfully.
There are so many versions of a best father, and I thank God for giving me father that is you. You are just the best thing I could ever had. You are there when I was growing up, guiding, motivating, inspiring, disciplining and bringing the best in me.
You taught me so many things. You taugth me that there's nothing I can't achieve with hard work and prayers. You taught me to love reading and studying. You taught me the importance of valuing what matters most. You taught me the essence of perseverance. You taught me to face my problems. You taught me to stand on my own. You do this both with words and action. And I carry all this learning wherever I go.
And the best thing you taught me is to value time. After joining the military, we don't get to see and spend time with each other more often. And so those few days off from work means like the world to me. You just don't know how much I long to see you at home. And how much I hated seeing you go everytime.
But I learn to accept all that. I learn to make most of your limited time with us. And as much as I'm jealous of your time with your job, I admire you for your commitment and dedication to serve. You are my living hero.
And while not everyone has good relationship with their father, I am very fortunate because I have you. You are not just a father and mentor to me, you are also a friend. You listen to everything I tell you without judgement. And I will always trust your wisdom with everything. After the Prophet, you are the most beloved man to me. And you will always be.
I miss you a lot. And you still owe me lunch and cinema date. I love you Ama. Happy Birthday.
