Unexpected love

Unexpected love

Chapter one:

Sarah was sitting in her large living room alone. She was completely absorbed by her thoughts when the phone rang suddenly. Her heart began to flutter .And she couldn’t understand whether it was fear or curiosity that made her feel that way. She was expecting the phone call, though. So there’s no reason of being so startled. She walked towards the phone and hesitated before she answered. Her voice was cold and calm.

- Has he arrived, yet? ...ok.....ok.....help him with the baggage....Thanks.

For a moment she felt dizzy. Her doubt had been written all over her face. Why did he decide to come back after all these years? Why now exactly? Or maybe the right question is: why did he leave at first? And why didn’t her husband like to talk about him and feels angry every time he hears his name?

The big door of the lavish house opened. Sarah felt nauseous, but she kept herself strong. She moved her fingers softly into the curls of her straight sandy-blond hair, and focused her eyes on the door. It was Mathew, The gardener. Carrying bags and cases, and putting them inside. The big amount of heavy baggage can mean just one thing: It’s not a simple visit or a summer journey. It’s a real eternal return and it will last forever.

The idea made her more anxious. A tall shadow entered the room following by a young man. Her eyes widened. She didn’t expect such a man to be the brother of her died husband. She was tall, but still not able to reach his chin. His lean strong body resembles that of a Hollywood actor. He was dressing casual, which was strange in her environment. All Luxberg’s family members and friends that she had the chance to meet during her marriage were very tidy and formal. He was wearing blue jeans and a leader black jacket, which lets appear a light blue polo shirt. His hips were narrow while his jacket emphasized broad shoulders. She swallowed. She couldn’t have been more surprised if the sofa had spoken! She expected to see a man in a black suit and a tie. Now she has to deal with such a man who is the uncle of her little sun. She raised her head and gave his face a look, for a long time she wondered where Den, her little son, got his special features. He had long curly black hair and decisive green eyes. He threw his hand sport bag indifferently on the floor and walked towards her.

- You look as though you’ve seen a ghost!

He wanted to shake her hand, but she didn’t. He put his hand in his pocket instead.

She addressed to Mathew.

- Could you take the baggage to Mr Luxburg’s room, Math?

- Yes, madam.

Mathew left immediately to do what she said.

- Seth. My name is Seth. I ‘m not the only Mr Luxberg in this house.

He protested.

Sarah said no word. According to her, she had been very polite if she didn’t chase him out of her house. He shot her a strange look and said:

- Is this your way to welcome your guests?

She moved towards the large stairs and said over her shoulder:

- Did you expect a party, for example?

He looked at her up and dawn. She was tall and slim. The black horrible dress she was wearing didn’t hide the features of her slender body. She let her overlong golden hair runs over her shoulders indifferently.

- Indifferent!

He didn’t pay attention that he was thinking loudly.

She turned and faced him with an angry gaze.

- Excuse me?!

- I meant....You don’t have to spend the rest of your life wallowing in self-pity.

- Oh! You know! It’s not your business. In this house, you have to pay attention to every word you say. This is not Spain!

He gave her a wry smile. Their eyes met in a battle of nerve. Piercing green eyes meeting startled blue eyes. He won.

- Are you coming or not?

He followed her upstairs until they arrived to a large bedroom. The walls were all decorated with precious paintings. There was a single bed covered with small pillows, and a sofa for reading. There was also a balcony which opens to a wonderful view from the villa’s garden. Sarah walked to the balcony and opened it. Fresh air entered.

- Don’t worry; you will have plenty of time to explore the house.

She looked at the cases and bags that Mathew had put in the corner. He got her point. Why does she think that he planned to live in her house?

In that moment a toddler entered the room. He had curly black hair and very beautiful green eyes. When he saw Seth, he stopped walking and stared at him with shyness. It was Den, his little nephew he had never seen. He wanted to take him close and hug him before the warning glare that Sarah shot him.

She held the toddler with her bare arms and kissed his cheek.

- Honey! Why aren’t you in your bed?

- There’s a tiger in my closet!

A sweet smile softened her lips.

- There aren’t any tigers in the city sweet heart. I will put you in your bed.

She turned to Seth.

- You have a private bathroom. You can have a shower and sleep.

When she turned to him, she was no longer the sweet tender woman speaking to Den. But the obstinate hard lady he met in the living room.

When Sarah left with her sun, Seth took off his jacket and threw it. Then he slept on the bed, feet on the floor. His journey from Spain was long. Every muscle in his body was giving him painful ache. He closed his eyes, but before he could sleep the door opened.

Seth sat on the bed with surprise in his eyes. He thought the door opened itself before that he saw little Den running towards him. Surprisingly, he felt the child’s small body against his chest. Den hugged him and felt the warmth in his chest.

- Daddy....

Seth swallowed. He surrounded the child with his big bare arms and said:

- No pumpkin...I’m not daddy...I’m you’re daddy’s brother, uncle Seth.

Den hugged him strongly, he exaggerated his name.

- Daddyyyyy......

In that moment Sarah entered the room. Her face softened when she found Den safe.

- I told you not to leave your room again Den! You scared me to death!

Den didn’t answer her. He was having a deep sleep in Seth’s warm hug. She stared at them with eyes wide opened. The resemblance between the man and his nephew was horrible!

Seth finally stood up taking the little boy in his arms. He whispered:

- I will put him in bed.

Sarah could say nothing. She guided him to Den’s bedroom without a simple word. Seth put the child on bed and covered him gently. He kissed his forehead softly and then got out of the room. When he closed the door calmly, he turned to Sarah.

- The poor little boy...

She looked at his face. It was very emotional.

- Seth...listen, I’m deeply sorry, I...

- You don’t have to. I wasn’t happy to meet you as well.

- It‘s your abrupt return which made things more complicated. Anyway, thank you for taking care of little Den.

- He’s my nephew Sarah! Stop treating me as a stranger!

Their eyes met again. For a while she observed how gorgeous he was. She really has to avoid eye contact with him, or she will be in trouble, deep trouble.

She moved her eyes and he gave her a wry smile. It was like that he was happy to win the battle again. But, why is he giving big interest to a stupid eye battle? If he’s trying to scare her, then he was doing a poor job of it. She gave him a dismissal look and walked to her room. He smiled and murmured:

- It’s going to be a very hot summer!

Chapter two:

Seth got up late the next day. It was a hot sunny July morning. He opened the curtains and had a look to the garden. He was surprised when he saw that everybody had already gotten up before him. Even little Den was playing with his dog, and running after her. But what surprised him more was Sarah. She was having her breakfast with a man in a black suit. Is he a next of kin? He became very inquisitive. He put on his sport clothes fast and ran down stairs.

Sarah was laughing loudly. This time she was wearing a black short dress and her hair was tied at the back of her head like a ponytail. The man in the black suit looked very tidy and neat. He was about thirty five years old, and he has got gray short wavy hair perfectly done. Even his black shoes were brightly clean. He was handsome.

The men stared at each other.

- Good morning!

Seth said.

The man glanced at his silvery hand watch. It was a way to make Seth aware that it was late to say good morning. Seth felt uncomfortable.

- Mr Seth Luxberg, Alex’s brother.

She turned to introduce the man.

- Mr Hawourd Gevery, my cousin.

Seth felt a strange feeling towards the man. He doesn’t know him, but his gut feelings told him they cannot be friends.

- Nice to meet you Mr Hawourd.

Hawourd glared at him and smiled suspiciously. Seth’s body was very tall and strong. He was lanky and good-looking. His brown shorts let appear tall strong legs. His white t-shirt shows the muscles of his chest, and his broad shoulders.

- A swimmer!

Seth didn’t like the fact that Hawourd didn’t respond his greeting. He gave him an angry glance.

- Yeah!

- I knew it from your strong body.

- Have a seat.

Sarah said.

Seth didn’t move his eyes from Hawourd.

- I don’t usually have breakfast before exercising.

- Mr. Luxberg wants to keep in shape. That’s good.

He looked at him up and down, and then said:

- But people don’t wear casual in this house.

Sarah shot Hawourd a questioning look.

- Don’t look at me like this, Sarah. I care about the family’s reputation. You know more what we had suffered from paparazzi.

He addressed to Seth:

- I’m sorry Mr Luxberg, but I have to say this. We have a little child here. He will run the entire heritage including his father’s business and companies. I don’t want you to affect his education.

He looked at Sarah’s face.

- Den is my nephew Mr Gevery. And I’m not here to destroy any one’s manners.

He looked at Sarah as he spoke.

Sarah turned her face addressing to Hawourd. Her cheeks were red of heat. It was easy to observe that Hawourd wasn’t trying to protect anyone or anything but her. Perhaps he was jealous.

- What are you talking about, Hawourd? I’m able to bring up my sun. And nobody can affect his manners except me!

Seth walked and left the house without adding any word. Now, he’s certain that Hawourd will never be his friend. As he crossed the garden’s huge gate, Sarah spoke.

- Why did you treat him that way?

- Why didn’t you tell me when he has just arrived?

- It was very late, Hawourd!

- I care about you Sarah, I care about Den. I don’t want to put your life in danger.

Anger hardened his features.

- Look at how strong is he! He could easily hurt you!

Sarah forced a smile that she didn’t feel to her face.

- You’re exaggerating!

Hawourd stood up and tried to calm down. His features relaxed as he got very close to Sarah who was staring at him surprisingly. His voice became soft and tender as he spoke.

- Listen dear; I’m sorry if I yelled at you. But I ‘m trying to protect you!

He swallowed and added:

- Do you know who this man is? Do you know his intention? Or why did he come back?

A pause.

- Of course you don’t. But I do! I know that kind of people. His brother was a tycoon. After that he passed away, it’s his golden chance to build a fortune, to make money by the easiest way in the world. And you with your little poor son will get nothing...Think about it Sarah, let him be far from you till that I found some information about him, and know if he’s a foe or a friend.

He looked at her eyes directly and whispered:

- Do you promise me?

She moved her head in a way that shows her acceptation.

- Good!

He kissed her forehead gently and left. As he walked away, Seth was turning back to the house, it seems he forgot something. Hawourd shot him an angry look as he passed next to him.

Chapter three:

Sarah stood up in the garden, heart in her throat. Hawoord’s words had scared her to death. What about if he is right? What about if she’s living with a criminal in one house? She felt inane because she gave him a room a few steps away from hers. If he isn’t involved in something illegal, why would he leave the country ten years without any visits?

She felt groggy and nauseous. She must be very careful when it comes to Seth.

- Hello!!!!!

She got up from her deep thoughts and felt frightened when she saw him in front of her.

- Where were you?

He said.

- You scared me to death, what do you want?

He stared at her face with a wry smile. She couldn’t deny that his eyes were scaring her. Every time he looks straight at her eyes, his look sends shivers all over her body.

- Seth, there‘s something I want to tell you.

He sat on a chair and took some bread.

- I’m listening.

She swallowed.

- You have to find a new house to live in.

He laughed and took some orange juice as he said:

- Are you mad something? Of course I’m not leaving all this luxury to stay in a hotel.

What’s now? Is he going to resist? Will he hurt her?

She gathered her force and cleared her throat.

- I’m not kidding you. I don’t feel comfortable with a strange man in my house. Hawourd will....

He stood up as he heard Hawourd’s name and didn’t let her finish her words. His anger had been written all over his face.

Sarah thought she might be sick. Her heart was running a marathon.

- Hawourd don’t feel comfortable to see me in my brother’s house? Is that what you wanted to say?

- It has nothing to do with my cousin. I own this house, and I decide if I want somebody to stay or not.

They stayed silent for a while. Their eyes met angrily and no one won or lost.

- Your brother....

She forced a smile to her lips.

- Could you tell me where have you been for ten years? You went, and you had never called or sent him a Dear John letter. I don’t even know who you are. You left before I met Alex and you weren’t present in our wedding. You weren’t even present in the funeral.

He walked towards her silently. Fear clutched at her heart with cold fingers.

- Who’s talking? Miss fidelity? Don’t play the role of the poor widow. Nothing in this house seems to be showing sadness!

She glanced at him with a shock. He was very close to her that she could feel his breaths. She wasn’t able to stop her tears running down her checks. He must be seen the innocent kiss from Hawourd’s lips to say such painful words.

- You’re a jerk! I love my husband...ok....maybe I didn’t at first, but when I started to feel his presence, he passed away. Death came without definitions. Could you just tell me when his birthday was? Or what was his favorite color? Ok, tell me what was the date of the day he passed away?

Seth answered her questions with deep horrible silence.

- Then let me live my lifetime in peace. You had robbed us of joy enough.

She ran to the house crying. Seth stayed immobile for a while. He looked at Den who was still playing with his big black and white dog: Ritha. Nobody could explain his absence in Spain. Sarah has the right to be afraid of him. Such a powerful strong young man could have intent to hurt a weak single beautiful woman.

She sat on her bed crying, Frightened and lonely. She heard him calling her behind the door:

- Sarah! We need to talk!

She reached a vase of flowers with her fingers, just in case. When he opened the door she threw it but she didn’t hit him. Seth stopped in surprise.

- Are you trying to kill me?

He walked towards her. Her body was shivering. His mouth softened into a tender smile.

- Sarah! There’s no reason to be afraid of me. I don’t have any intention to hurt you or Den.

He was speaking softly.

- I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings, I didn’t mean to offend you.

He walked near to her and passed his hand on the curls of her hair. His action sent shivers down her body. She was like a little child under his smooth warm hand. His gaze was sending an aching pain through her heart. Is she falling in love now? Why not? The man didn’t do anything wrong since his first hour in her house. He was gorgeous, in addition.

Sarah went into sweet dreams watching Seth treating her tenderly. Then the reality broke the spell. Perhaps he’s trying to make her trust him as to move to his plan B. But the worst thing is that he’s her husband’s brother. She mustn’t have a crush on her husband’s younger brother.

He stopped touching her hair and said.

- I’m leaving tomorrow morning. Could you just allow me to come and see Den time to time?

- Of course.

She murmured.

He left the room. Sarah stayed thoughtful and felt insane. She shouldn’t tell Hawourd what happened. But she had to start her researches herself to find out information about Seth. She remembered Chris, a friend of hers who works as a police officer. He might help her figure out what she wants. She took her cell-phone and tried to call him. At least she left him a message:

- Hi Chris, it’s Sarah. I need you to help me get some information about a man. He’s called Seth Luxberg, Alex’s brother. I’m going to send you a picture by the time you answer me. Hope you will do soon. Take care.

Sarah took a breath and murmured:

- I’m in trouble, deep trouble!

Chapter four

In the ensuing night, sleep didn’t knock Sarah’s door. She spent her day playing with Den, feeding Ritha and talking on the phone. Seth might be out; she hasn’t seen him since what happened in the morning. Hawourd called many times to make sure she’s doing well; she didn’t tell him anything about what she had asked Chris to do. She didn’t want to bother him, especially because he had already left his work as a lawyer and dedicated all his time to run Alex’s business. She wasn’t good in economy.

Sarah put Den in bed. She was unable to sleep. Chris hasn’t answered her, yet. She stayed in her bedroom’s balcony thinking about all the events that happened after her husband’s death. What she was sure about was that Alex didn’t treat her as a woman, ever. She spent five years of marriage feeling like a piece of furniture in his house. Business was his entire life. While she was trying to rescue her marriage, all what he was thinking about is how to earn more money. She gave birth to Den in a futile attempt to have his attention, but in vain.

She forced a smile to her lips when she remembered Seth. In Alex’s life, everything was well organized and written in his schedule. Even sweet words that a man is supposed to tell his wife needed a specific time to be told. But Seth, his younger brother seems to be smarter. His indifferent behaviour and casual clothes show how simple his life is. He’s living a happy calm life letting destiny do its work. In Alex’s life, everything was calculated, even his words. Maybe that’s why they couldn’t agree, Seth argued with him and then left the country. But such a problem cannot make him leave ten long years without a simple phone call or a Dear John letter. She can’t stand waiting to solve this enigma.

For a moment Sarah felt the dull of standing alone in her balcony and wanted to walk for a while. She went down stairs and walked in the silent dark garden. Fresh air was playing with her creamy white dress. Suddenly she heard a noise near the pool, and a husky masculine form emerged, standing near to the pool and staring at her. Fear clutched at her heart with cold fingers.

Sarah stared at the man’s ghost. Nothing was clear in the darkness. She stared at him, fear edging down her spine. She couldn’t feel herself till that she sent a clear scream from her throat. The man escaped.

Sarah’s body was shivering, heart in her throat. She felt large soft hands on her shoulders and then heard a gentle masculine voice.

- What’s the matter?

It was Seth.

She turned to him and surrounded his narrow hips with her arms. As she put her head on his chest, she felt warm and safe witch made her want to melt against him. Seth was startled; he could do or say nothing. When she became aware about what she has done, she left him immediately not believing her deed.

- You look petrified Sarah! What’s on?

- He was next to the pool, staring at me!

- Who?

She didn’t answer.

Seth wanted to walk towards the pool, but she took his arm and said.

- Don’t go, Seth!

He turned to her and shot her a questioning look.

- I mean...I have a vivid imagination these days...I must be sick.

She lied. She was sure she saw a man staring at her. But she didn’t want Seth to hurt himself, and she couldn’t tell him she’s worried about his safety.

- I must have some shut-eye then I will be fine.

She looked at his face and her mouth softened into a sweet smile.

- By the way, if you still want to stay I....

- Nope.

It was a clear simple refusal.

- I didn’t plan to stay in your house anyway. I’ve already bought an apartment when I was in Spain. Online.

Sarah couldn’t move her eyes from his cute face. He had green beautiful eyes and small lips. His curly black hair was reaching his shoulders. He was adorable.

She walked to the house with a flutter heart. Maybe because he’s the only person who still reminds her about Alex that she finds him very interesting. Or perhaps because he has got a style completely different from all men she had known in her life. Whatever it was, she must find an end for this story very soon. She lost her morale after her husband’s death, and it would not be improved by such an action.

Sarah entered her room and closed the door behind her. Now she has things more important than thinking about her husband’s young sibling. She couldn’t forget the view of the huge man standing next to the pool and staring at her. Who was he? And what did he want from her?

She jumped out of her bed like that she remembered something. She felt nauseous and wanted to vomit.

- Oh God! Help me? How didn’t I pay attention to this?

What was Seth doing in the garden very late? Was he following her? He’s action was as fast as light when he heard her screaming. This means that he was very near. Did he know about the man? He didn’t even insist to go after him.

She waited for the nausea to pass, and then took her cell-phone. Chris must be sending her a message. She must find out some information about Seth before something bad happened to her or Den. Chris left her a message as she expected.

- Hi Sarah! I tried to call you many times today, where have you been? Is everything OK? Anyway, I couldn’t gather much information about your man. But want to see you soon in my office. See you there. Take care.

Sarah took a deep breath. If she didn’t handle this problem soon, she’d find herself losing everything. Maybe Hawourd is right about Seth. He could be here just to rob them from the heritage.

Absorbed by her thoughts, sleep came without definitions.

Chapter five

Sarah put on a white tailored suit. She made her overlong hair and tied it in the back of her head. In front of the mirror, she felt the desire to put some make up as to hide her pale skin. Lost time couldn’t be replaced anyway. She should stop wallowing in self pity and deal with her new life. She finally put a light pink eye shadow and some powder on her checks. She looked pretty and ten years younger!

She first went to see Den in his bedroom. As she opened the door, the toddler ran towards her and gave her a big hug. She held him tenderly and kissed his check.

- I’m going with ya mommy...

- No honey. I have work. Laura will look after you.

A middle aged woman walked towards them and took Den in her arms gently.

- Don’t you want to stay with Auntie Laura?

Her voice was calm and tender as she spoke.

- I have great plans for you today.

- Will we take Ritha for a walk?

- We will take her for a walk.

- And watch a cartoon?

- Of course we’ll do sweet heart!

Den addressed to his mother:

- I wanna stay with Auntie Laura!

A wide grin stretched across her face.

- Listen to what she says. I will buy you chocolate and biscuits in my way home.

She kissed him again and left.

It has been a long time she didn’t drive. The car’s smell reminded her of the last time she drove when she and Alex argued again for the millionth time since their wedding day. She was driving so fast and tears were running down her checks. She could see his car in the side mirror driving after her. When she arrived home, she went into her room letting him burning in his anger. The ensuing night he prayed her to forgive him and promised to change his behaviour completely. He asked her to dress up and called a restaurant to book a table for two. She had never forgotten the look he shot her when he left the room. He told her that he will drive to Luxberg Industries to handle a little problem and then return to take her to have the perfect dinner in her life. His look was cold and mysterious. Like he knew what will happen. She waited and waited, but he had never turned back, until now. If only she could have her husband back to life, even if they will dispute again, she will never leave him.

Tears burned her eyes. She took a deep breath and started the engine. She should meet Chris first. And then go to Luxberg Industries to see Hawourd and have a look. Maybe she can help a little instead of staying home thinking about the past.

Her heart began to pound heavily when she found herself in Chris’s office.

- It has been a long time....Sarah Luxberg!

- I’m sorry Chris. I wanted to visit you and Susan but I have been so busy the last days.

Chris smiled and then said:

- I ‘m afraid I didn’t find much information about your man. But I think I should tell you everything I could gather.

- Go on Chris. You have no idea how much I need these information.

Chris turned his head towards his laptop and searched for something. Her heart sank as he turned the laptop to make her able to see the screen. It was Seth’s picture.

- Seth Justin Luxburg. At the age of twenty, he graduated from Business and Management College with a high degree. He didn’t work in a company as it was expected. But he became a photograph. Two years later, he immigrated to Spain.

- What about his life there?

Chris’s face became more serious as he said:

- This is the mysterious thing. No information about him after immigration. We cannot enter to his system, he’s under protection. Maybe he’s using a security program.

- Why would he use a security program?

- You can’t always know why people do some things.

He worked on the laptop for a while then added:

- But I could find out how much wealthy is he!

- Wealthy? Seth?

Chris made her a face.

She looked at the screen and read what was written.

- He seems to be one of the richest men in Spain!

- How could?

- Maybe he’s a tycoon as his brother was.

Sarah took a breath. If there is no mistake in what Chris had found, then Hawourd’s theory about stilling the heritage is false.

- Terrific! Thank you Chris, I really appreciate your help.

- It’s not much, but you’re welcome.

Sarah stood up and shook Chris’s hand.

- If you found something new, don’t hesitate to tell me.

- Of course.

She went out not believing that Seth can be a tycoon. Nothing in his appearance or behaviour shows that he owns a company. He seemed to be an actor more than a business man. But it’s not her business what he’s doing to earn money, since he will leave her fortune in peace.

She started the engine. Her heart sank when she saw Seth staring at her from the driver’s seat window. Did he know that she consulted a police officer wondering about his life?

- Couldn’t you make a simple noise as to know you’re there?

- I scared you?

- Of course you did!

She looked up him; her face was innocent and a little silly.

- Were you following me?

He gave her a goofy grin.

- Excuse me? I’m not a detective!

Anger heated her neck. She opened the door for him. He entered the car and shut the door

- So what were you doing here?

- Following you!

He laughed.

- I’m serious.

- I live in that street. My apartment isn’t so far from here. What about you?

She shook her head and looked out from the window. It seems that he has a strong reason to be there, Stronger than hers.

- Visiting a friend.

- Good.

She was happy he stopped questioning.

- I’m going to Luxberg Industries if you want to join.

- Good idea!

She knew Hawourd will not be happy to see him there. But he is still Alex’s brother, and he has rights in his father’s company.

On their way to the company, Sarah and Seth spoke about different topics. For the first time she felt relaxed next to him, and didn’t think that he may hurt her. She explored how funny his personality was. And how skilled was he when it comes to making people laugh.

They arrived. Hawourd was in his office as usual. He welcomed Sarah and Seth with startled angry eyes.

- Surprise!

Sarah said.

- I didn’t expect you, you had never done it.

He passed his angry gaze to Seth, and then forced a smile to his face.

- You’re always welcome. Have a seat.

Seth didn’t like the fact that Hawourd behaves like the owner, and treat them as strangers. Nobody deserves Luxberg Industries more than him. He’s Justin Luxberg’s sun.

They all sat in the part of the office which was dedicated for guests. The phone rang and Hawourd answered.

- Did you prepare me the new copy?

A pause.

- Of course we don’t need the first one, I‘ll get rid of it.

He ended the phone call.

- I’m sorry, this is business. You don’t have time even for yourself.

Seth looked at him angrily. He must stop this piece of theatre!

Chapter six

Sarah started the engine, happy because she wasn’t obliged to assist a fight battle between Seth and her cousin. She opened the sunroof to allow air and light come in.

Seth was staring at her face.

- What?

She said focusing her eyes on the road.

- What?

He replied.

- Why are you staring at me?

He stopped looking at her and shrugged.

- I don’t know? Is it a crime?

She glanced at him from narrow eyes.

- For a while I thought you’re a man! Now I could say that you’re a woman!

He added with a goofy smile.

- You fool!

She laughed.

- I wasn’t that horrible!

- Just kidding.

They stayed silent for a while. Sarah broke the silence.

- Tell me.....How old are you?

- Why are you asking?

- Want to know.

- Let me think! Nineteen, maybe?

She laughed from her big heart. He added:

- Thirty one, to be honest.

- I’m twenty nine. Two years younger, right?

- You could just tell me you hate maths!

They laughed again. It was a long time Sarah didn’t felt happy like that. A black car went near to theirs, very near, actually. Sarah lost control; she couldn’t stop the car until it fell dawn the edge.

Sarah opened her eyes and looked towards her. Seth was staring at her face.

- Where am I? What happened?

- We had an accident. Thank heavens you got up. We have to get out of this stupid car.

He took her hand gently and helped her get out. When she put her feet at the ground, her body fell back. Two strong hands caught her.

- Are you OK?

- I’m fine. I broke one of my heels.

- What?

He looked down at her feet and smiled as he knew that she was talking about her white leather shoes, with three inch spike heels.

She felt a liquid running down her forehead.

- You injured you’re forehead!

- How bad?

- I don’t know. But I will take you to the hospital.

She wiped away blood with her hand.

- No need, I’m fine.

- Of course I won’t listen to you. The injury should be cleaned!

- Forget about it. I ‘m doing well.

- But you shou...

- I’m fine Seth; you don’t have to be worried. I hate hospitals, either!

Her voice was deep and a little said. She cleared her throat. He understood that she doesn’t want to remember the view of Alex’s died body again.

- Then you will go with me to my apartment. It’s not far from here.

- Just take me to my house.

- Are you crazy? We can’t move the car! It’s stranded!

- Then I will walk.

He looked at her feet.

- Not with your left shoe broken heel. Unless you want me to carry you!!!

He laughed, but Sarah didn’t find it that much funny. He wore a serious face and voice became husky and soft.

- Listen, Sarah. I’ll take you with me, clean the injury, and take you home with my car. Unless you’re expecting a better offer in this darkness!

She looked at him from innocent scared eyes. He wanted to take her arm to help her walk. When his hand came near her, Sarah flinched.

- I’m trying to help, Sarah!

He cleared his throat.

- We’re obliged to leave the car where it is. You should call your assurance company later.

He took her arm gently and helped her walk. They stayed silent until they arrived to a high building. They used the elevator to get to the third floor. Seth turned the key in the lock and opened the door for her.

- Ladies first!

Sarah hesitated.

- What?

He asked her.

He looked down at her. She resembles a tiny injured bird.

- I‘ll let the door open.

He said.

She took of her shoes and entered the apartment. Despite Seth’s indifference, his house was clean and tidy. Everything was in the right place. The apartment was well arranged.

- Take a seat. I will bring the hospitalization box to clean the injury.

She sat on a sofa and looked around her. There was no reason of being afraid of Seth. If he wanted to hurt her, he’s already had hundreds of opportunities to do it. When he came, she told him to close the door if he wanted to. His face softened into a sweet smile. Finally she trusted him. He put the box he was holding on the floor, and closed the door.

- I was freezing!

He said as he walked towards her.

Sarah stayed silent, looking at him getting close to her. He knelt on the floor and opened the box. He took a piece of cotton and wetted it with alcohol. Then he cleaned smoothly the injury in her forehead.

- Does it hurt?

- Not badly.

Seth’s face was serious while cleaning the injury. He was feeling her pain. She remembered one day she felt ill. She was running a fever. Alex’s way to show interest was to bring her the most skilled doctor in the country, and take her to the biggest hospital. Maybe it was his way, but it wasn’t what she needed.

Seth put a clean soft piece of cloth on her injury. He smiled as he said:

- Finished, you’ll be OK.

- Thank you.

It wasn’t enough. But it was all what she had.

She looked at his face and gorgeous green eyes gleamed with interest. They stared at each other; Seth felt that there was something wrong, something that should not happen. Every time he looked at her blue eyes he felt guilty. He mustn’t betray his brother’s trust. He stood up and held the box with his big hands.

- Relax; I’m going to make some coffee.

He went to the kitchen. Sarah stayed in the living room staring around her. She blamed herself because she thought all kinds of bad things about the man; while he was showing her how honest he was day after another. A woman’s photo took her attention.

Seth turned back with two cups of hot coffee. He put them on the table. The smell was so inviting!

- Maria.

- Girlfriend?

Sarah said over her shoulder.

- We were engaged.

- She’s cute!

- She was cute.

She turned to look at him from narrowed eyes.

- She was?

Seth sat on a sofa.

- She’s dead.

- I’m deeply sorry!

He took his cup with his two hands.

- You don’t have to. We were no longer engaged when she passed away. She left me.

Sarah had a seat next to him and took her cup.

- Why?

- You can’t judge a book from its flashy cover. I made a clean break and started my life over.

Sarah tasted her coffee.

- How did she die?

Seth flinched. He felt uncomfortable.

- How is your coffee?

Sarah made him a face.

- Awesome!

She knew he was trying to change the subject. But she couldn’t blame him. She went through the same experience. A sense of doom hung over the entire house.

Seth put his cup on the table. His features became deep and very serious. He got closer to her and said:

- Sarah!

She looked at him from startled eyes. Panic flashed through her.

- I have to tell you something!

He opened his mouth, but words failed him. For days he’d been searching for a way to tell her, struggling for the right words. But he has to tell her, now. Or he should shut his mouth forever. He didn’t know what to start with. He took her hands.

- Sarah, since we’ve became friends I have to tell you...

- Seth! Could you just relax! You’re scaring me!

She glanced at his big hands covering her small ones.

- Could you free my hands...Please!

He left her hands and swallowed. He’s voice became calm.

- I’m sorry, I...

- It’s okay. What did you want to tell me?

- Hawourd.

- What about him?

He settled down and shook his head.

- He’s a traitor!

She stared at him trying to analyse his words. She wasn’t sure about what her ears heard. He went into his bedroom and came back with a blue folder. He threw it on the table.

- What’s this?

- The proof!

What proof he’s talking about? What’s the hell he’s trying to tell her? Her thoughts made her groggy, dizzying her with regret to trust Seth.

- When we were in the company, I heard Hawourd’s phone call. He was talking about a new and an old folder. As a business man, I know there are no new and old copies of co documents. Unless he was trying to hid something. I have always known that he was cheating you. But I didn’t have the proof.

He sat down next to her, her surprised gaze followed him.

- It was my golden chance! As he was talking on the phone, his eyes were focusing on a blue folder. My gut feelings told me it was the right copy. When we left, I told you I forgot my keys in Hawourd’s office, I lied.

Sarah remembered when they got out of Luxberg Industries. Seth told her that he forgot his keys inside and she waited for him until he came back and then started the car.

- I went into the office and argued with him. My goal was to get out with the proof. I picked the folder and hid it under my t-shirt and then left. He didn’t see me.

Sarah took a deep breath; she pushed back her unruly hair. Her wide opened gaze turned to an indifferent look as she stood up.

- Have you done, yet?

He eyed her up.

- Take me to my house, please.

- Sarah! You can examine the folder if you don’t believe me!

When she turned fiery eyes his way, he stood up.

- Do you think what happened today was an accident? There was a black car Sarah, you know this. But you don’t want to admit.

- It was an accident, Seth. We were laughing, I lost control!

- Sarah! Your husband’s death! Alex, my brother’s death, was it an accident?

She felt nauseous and her breaths were heavy.

- Stop it, Seth! Take me home, please!

His voice came calm and cold as he spoke:

- I will, and one day, you will believe me Sarah Givery!

Chapter seven

Seth drove the car silently. He added no other word to his last statement. His silence was killing her. If only she could hear his voice again, even telling her his unbelievable stories. He was focusing his eyes on the road, His hands on the steering wheel. She could see how nervous he was. When they arrived, he opened the door for her without a simple word.

She walked towards the house alone. Were those tears willing in her eyes?

She went straight to her room. Everybody had already slept. What the hell Seth was talking about? Despite that she can’t believe his stories; there was something true about what he said. Somewhere inside her she wanted to trust him, But to trust who? A man she doesn’t know who is he?

At least she convinced herself to do her own researches and find out the truth. It’s time to stop getting her view to things from what other people see, Time to use her brain, Time to protect herself and her son.

The next morning, Sarah got up early and changed into black tailored and high heels black shoes. She tied her hair at the back of her head as usual. Then she put on a red lipstick. She hasn’t looked that elegant for ages. Her beauty took a special quality.

Laura, Mathew’s wife will take care of Den. She has a lot of work to do. First, she will go to see Hawourd, and then she will meet Chris to help her in a mission.

As she drove the car, Sarah felt strong and determined again. She was no longer the weak poor widow who spends her day crying about the past. Seth’s words repeated themselves in her ears. She must find out the truth.

- Sarah?

- Sorry Hawourd, I didn’t call before I came.

- Of course you don’t have to; you’re welcome at any time! Have a seat.

- No need, I’m a little bit busy.

He gave her a questioning look. Busy? Since when she has been busy? Doing what?

- Is everything OK?

For a while she wanted to tell him everything, but wisdom came at the right moment.

- I spent twelve months wallowing in self pity and trying to get other people’s sympathy. Now I no longer want to stay in this state. I decided to go shopping and buy new clothes, and why not see a coiffeur.

- Good morph!

She shook her head, hesitated if she really wants to tell him what she came about. Doubt was written all over her face. Finally she gathered her force and faced him.

- Hawourd, do you mind giving me the copies of the last sold goods?

Hawourd flinched as he heard her words. Not believing his ears. Why would she care surprisingly about the business? He was sure Seth has a hand in this.

- Of course I don’t. Why? Don’t you trust me?

- I do, dear. I do. I just want to know how work goes in the co.

Her answer didn’t satisfy him. He knows his cousin as he knows himself.

- Ok. Don’t worry about this. But I have something more important to tell you.

Her heart sank. Why everybody has secrets to tell her these days?

- It’s about Seth. He came to me yesterday and menaced me. He wanted to fight. And said that I’m trying to still his father’s company. You know Sarah; you know I’m doing this just for you and Den!

She took a deep breath. Everyone is telling her a different story about the same event. She didn’t know who to trust.

He put his hands on her shoulders and caressed her arms gently.

- Seth is a dangerous man, Sarah. I didn’t want to tell you, but he’s a drug seller.

- A what?

- As I told you, I did my own researches.

She couldn’t believe what he was telling her. She felt dizzy, and didn’t hear any other word he said. All what she could remember was the video he showed her in his cell- phone. Seth was wearing sunglasses but she could saw his face clearly. He was holding a black suitcase that a huge man gave him. She could also see the gate of her villa’s garden.

She walked to her car and drove even that she wasn’t feeling good.

Why couldn’t she believe that Seth can be involved in something illegal? She barely knows him? But the video was so clear, and she could recognise the other man. He was the man who got into her house and stared at her near the pool. Was Seth making a drug deal into her house? It’s obvious he made his fortune from drug selling.

She stopped her car for a while to make a phone call. She wasn’t in a good state to drive and use the phone at the same time.

- Hi Chris, it’s Sarah.

- Hi Sarah...you’re ok?

- I’m fine. I called to tell you I’m not coming today. I have something to handle. Any news?

- Oh....about Mr Luxberg...I’m afraid not....all what I can tell you is that he’s using a nickname.

- A nickname?

- He’s living in Spain as Mr James Armas.

- Good. Keep in touch!

- Ah...of course.

She ended the phone call and took a breath. It’s another proof about Seth’s mysterious job. But she can’t understand why she has a feeling that Chris is hiding something and didn’t want to tell her the hall story?

She drove until she found herself in front of the building where Seth lives. She used the elevator. When he opened the door, he found her depressed said face. She was pale.

- What’s the matter, Sarah?

As she blinked, tears were welling down her checks.

They got into the apartment.

- Say something Sarah! Did somebody hurt you?

She looked at him. His green wide eyes were killing her. She saw the devil dancing across his face.

- You did Seth! You hurt me!

- I hurt you?

She walked close and slapped his check.

- You’re a stupid jerk! Getting into my life and destroying it! Robbing me and my son from joy! And selling drugs in my villa’s garden?

- Drugs?

His eyes widened.

- Of course you will deny. Your poor older brother was trying to protect you. When he knew that you’re selling drugs, he helped you immigrate to Spain. There, you could make your fortune. You can do what you want idiot! But not in my house, not with my family’s security.

He was looking at her trying not to laugh. But he couldn’t keep it any longer inside. He laughed for twenty good seconds.

Sarah felt terrified. What the hell she’s trying to do inside a drug seller’s house? Her legs trembled with fear. She should get out now.

- Do you think I could be a drug seller, Sarah?

- Why would a man use a security program? And a nickname Mr James Armas!

His lips curved into a smile. He took her arm gently. Her body shivered like a tiny wet bird. What is he trying to do? Where is he taking her?

He wasn’t taking her anywhere, actually. He just made her sit down on the sofa. She settled down, her eyes followed him.

- Have you done, yet? Now it’s my turn to talk. And you should listen to me as I listened to you.

He took his laptop and opened it. Using the keyboard, he wrote the name: James Armas.

Under her gaze he showed her the screen. His pictures were clear. She couldn’t believe her eyes.

- Yes Sarah. I am a famous swimmer. I got so many medallions in Spain; I made my fortune by myself. Starting from nothing.

Sarah swallowed. She felt stupid and naive.

- But I saw a video...I saw you with that man in the garden.

- Listen carefully. I’ll tell you the story.

Chapter eight

- When I went to high school, I was the wealthy lucky Luxberg’s son. It was easy for me to make friends; every girl wanted me to be her boyfriend. Life was opening the door in front of my face. But it wasn’t the life I wanted, Sarah. I didn’t want people to love me because I was the tycoon’s son. I hated suits, and ties made me feel breathless. I hated being under control, as well. Even when I wanted to go to college, it was my father who chose in my place. I went to Business and Management College as he wanted. I graduated with a high degree, though. After that dad passed away.

- And Alex took his place.

- Exactly. He knew my passion, and he gave me freedom to be the man I wanted to be. With a sport bag and a camera in my hand, my day became separated between swimming and photographing.

He looked at her deep blue startled eyes as he wanted to tell her a dangerous secret. His face became serious.

- Sarah, do you remember Maria?

Why would he involve Maria in the story?

- Your EX-girl friend?

- She was a loyal little Spanish girl before she knew Smith. That man owned a big company for industries. And he was a dangerous Mafioso! When Luxberg industries started to compete against his co, he wanted to put an end for it.

- But what was the relationship between your EX-girlfriend and Smith?

Seth took a deep breath.

- When she left me, I had to pick up the pieces of my broken heart and start a new life. But to know that she was playing the same game with my brother....

- Alex and Maria?

- They were sending her to know our company’s secrets. When Alex knew, they fought. Maria fell down the fourth floor.

Sarah looked at him suspiciously. Did her husband kill Maria?

- Fortunately I was there. Taking photos for the building. By chance, I took a photograph for Maria’s body falling down from my brother’s office balcony. They wanted to put him in jail; I had nothing to do to help him. But when I treated the photos in my lab, there was one proof. There was a face in the balcony, and after zooming in on the face, it was obvious he wasn’t Alex.

Sarah took a breath; it was relaxing to know her husband was innocent.

- This is surreal. You helped your brother, and then left him to spend ten years without a simple visit!

- I was witness to the tragic crime Sarah. The mafia was looking for me. If you don’t believe my story you can just ask Chris.

Chris? How did he know him? She remembered the day she met him next to the police building. How comes?

- How do you know about him?

- Chris is a friend of mine. I knew you were consulting him, and so did I.

She looked at him angrily.

- He was deceiving me and acting like he doesn’t know anything about you!

- He wasn’t deceiving you, he was protecting me. Since the crime, I have been in a witness protecting program. No police officer had the right to give any information about my real identity. They decided that I should live the country and change my name.

Sarah looked straight at his face. Her features softened as she spoke:

- That’s why Alex didn’t like to talk about you! How stupid I was! I thought that he hates you. But the reality is that he wanted to protect you!

- They killed him Sarah. When they couldn’t reach me they killed him.

- It was an accident.

- No it wasn’t. That’s what they want us to believe. What about what happened with us? Do you really believe it was an accident?

She was silent.

Seth came close to her; he took her hands and looked at her eyes. His gaze made her shy.

- You have to help me Sarah. Please.

- What about the video?

- That night when you sow the man next to the pool, I had already known about him. Because he was following me everywhere since my first meeting with your cousin. I didn’t want to fight with him in front of you so I waited until that you got into your room and followed him. We fought man to man. I obliged him to tell me everything and I knew that Hawourd sent him. At the end he accepted to make a deal: I will keep mum and don’t tell the police, and he will help me to find my proof. The next day he turned back with a case and told me that it contained something important. I trusted him. But I found nothing inside. Now you came with that video.

- You mean...

- Hawourd!

- You think Hawourd helped the mafia to...

- I’m not sure if he works with them or not. But we need a proof. I want you to help me!

- I can’t. Hawourd is not a criminal!

- Then help me to prove his innocence!

Sarah’s tears were welling down her checks. Seth put his big hand on her face and wiped them away.

- I’m marrying Hawourd next week!

His heart sank.

- What? You can’t marry him! I won’t let you!

- Why?

Seth searched for the reason inside him, he couldn’t find an answer. Or, didn’t want to believe what his heart was telling him.

- At least we should know the truth first.

Sarah took his big hand with her silky one. She smiled deeply and said:

- I’m sorry Seth, for everything. It’s not enough, but thanks for all what you have done for me and my son.

His eyes narrowed when his lips curved into a smile.

- But I still owe you a drink.

- Why?

- For scaring you to death.

- I wasn’t afraid of you!

She protested.

He stood up and passed his fingers through his curly black hair.

- With no other word. Wait for me here, I will take you with me.

- Where?

- I said with no other word!

She smiled. Her gaze followed him till he got into his room. She opened her purse and took her mirror in her hand, looking at her reflection. She must be horrible after crying! She put her red lipstick again and fixed everything else perfectly. She felt happy.

When Seth turned back, she couldn’t believe her eyes. He was into a black suit and his hair was well done. He looked very handsome and attractive.

- You look fabulous!

- I wanted to show you that I can be elegant either! I know you find me very stupid in my casual cheap clothes.

She laughed. He walked towards her and took her left hand.

- Do you mind going out with me Ms Gevery?

She was surprised. Ms Givery? Of course, she’s no longer Ms Luxberg, after her husband’s demise... which means...No way, it’s not a date.

He was feeling guilty and wants to apologize.

She stood up and smiled. Her hand was in his big one. They walked without another word.

It was a calm beautiful evening. He opened the car’s door for her. Seth was behaving as a noble French young man. He wanted to show her his Luxberg skills.

They arrived to an elegant restaurant. He opened the door for her again and took her hand. When she got out of the car she felt shy.

- I should wear a dress instead of this stupid tailored.

- You look great Sarah!

- Are you crazy? I can’t go inside like this. You should take me first to the house...

- Come on!

She insisted. He took her to the villa and waited next to the garden’s gate. She ran to her room, her heart fluttering like a butterfly. She opened the closet and took a moment staring at her dresses. It had been a long time. A black strapless dress was inviting her. She took it in her hands and hugged it. It was the same dress she was wearing that night when Alex had the accident, she was the first and the last time she wore it until now!

Seth was leaning against the car, when he saw Sarah walking towards him he stood straight, she was exquisite!

The black shiny dress gave her slender body a special quality. Her hair was running down her bare shoulders as silky as water.

- An arresting looking woman!

Sarah smiled.

- Thank you Seth.

He opened the door for her and started the engine. It was an enchanting night! He has never felt that happy next to a woman. When they arrived to the restaurant, it seemed to him that everybody was looking at them. He had an excellent beautiful partner.

Sarah looked around her. The restaurant was luxurious and very romantic. Spouses were dancing and holding each other’s hands, her checks were heated with shyness. Why would Seth take her to such a place?

Everything reminded her about the last time she was with Alex; it was supposed that he will take her to a restaurant and she was wearing the same dress. Seth was realizing his brother’s last wish.

He looked at her eyes like he was searching for some signs. She felt uncomfortable.

- What? Why are you staring at my face?

- Nothing....I feel that you’re out of my league.

Why would he think that she’s out of his league?

Her heart started to pound fast. Does he want to tell her something?

She made a little move and put her hands on the table.

- For what?

He wanted to talk but the words didn’t come out.

“A clever woman can simply understand what I’m seeking to. But I myself don’t know what I’m doing exactly! ”. He thought.

- People are looking at us. They think we’re married. Of course I’m not like Alex to have a woman like you.

“Alex? Is that what he wants to tell me? He took me here to talk about his died brother? I’m so stupid...!” Sarah thought.

- Alex was different.

She said in a way to revenge for making her feel that stupid.

- Yeah...of course...different!

“She hadn’t forgotten her husband, yet. Maybe she still loves him. What a hilarious situation I put myself in!”.

They had conflicted thoughts.

“What I’m expecting him to tell me exactly?”

“Why I don’t want her to remember Alex?”

They were thinking at the same time. A startled and confused look was written over the face of every one of them.

“Do I love him?”

“Do I love her?”

They opened their mouths in surprise.

- What...?

They spoke at the same time. The action made them both laugh.

- What are you thinking about?

He looked at her. It was the same question he wanted to ask.

- About Hawourd...

He lied.

Hawourd? At first Alex and now Hawourd? What a stupid lie!

- I don’t think he’s involved with the mafia.

- What about the man he sent to my house?

- He wanted just to scare you.

- Why did he want to scare me?

- He wanted you to chase me out of your life. He was feeling jealous.

She turned her face to the other side and played with a curl of her hair.

- There was no reason to make him feel that way, was there?

She looked at him waiting for his answer with no patience.

Seth felt like an idiot. It was not the reaction he expected from her. He didn’t understand the intention behind Sarah’s question, he thought she was serious.

“Why every word I tell is just making things worse?” the thought came to both their minds.

He cleared his throat.

- Yep! There was no reason. But he has the right to worry.

Seth wanted not to show that he was expecting a special answer for his question. But Sarah wasn’t happy about his last words.

Musicians started to play soft calm music. Seth stood up and gave Sarah his hand. Was he really asking her to dance?

- Do you mind?

Sarah raised her eyes and shot his face a quick look. The music was so inviting, and so did Seth. She put her hand in his and stood up with a fabulous smile. He put one hand gently on her wrist, and the other on the top of her shoulder. She surrounded his nick with her arms hesitantly. She couldn’t face him.

- Look at me Sarah!

Her body shivered, she was afraid he could hear her heart pounding so fast. She raised her head to look at him. When their eyes met, she wanted to melt!

- Do you love him?

- Who?

- Hawourd.

- I don’t know...I trust him... love comes with time...

She could no longer look at his green magical eyes. They were like precious diamonds.

- No Sarah...We don’t choose the people we fall in love with...and love can’t be produced in Luxburg Industries like other products you can buy!

- I didn’t love Alex at first, but...

- So don’t make the same mistake again...

Somewhere in the back of her mind she knows he was right. But something was wrong.

- I’m late. I have to go home.

- Why?

- I left Den with Laura. And Hawourd will...

He left her and forced a smile to his face.

- I understand. You shouldn’t betray his trust. It‘s not a date anyway.

- Of course it’s not.

Really? What would they call it, then?

They walked to the car silently. A feeling of gloom covered their faces.

- Do you mind walking?

He moved his head expressing acceptation. He looked at her bare shoulders and arms and then took off his jacket.

He covered her gently.

- Thanks.

They walked in the dark empty street with horrible silence. Everyone was completely absorbed by his thoughts.

“Why did I take her to the restaurant? I just made things worse!”

“I shouldn’t go with him. I made a foolish mistake”

“If I really love her, then I should go to the end of the world to forget this love”.

“If what I’m feeling now is real love, then I have to bury it forever”

“It’s a shame to love my brother’s widow”

“It’s a shame to love my died husband’s brother”

They found themselves in front of the garden’s big door. Tears were burning their eyes.

- Well... I have to go Sarah.

She couldn’t feel herself until she surrounded his hips with her arms and put her head on his chest. He covered her with his big arms. She was crying.

- Thank you Seth. You had changed my life.

She walked to the house without turning back.

“Could I really forget him?”

“Could I really forget her?”

Chapter nine:

The next few days ran together. Seth came a few times to see Den and buy him new toys. Chris called to reassure Sarah that there wasn’t anything to worry about, when it comes to Hawourd. Her life without Seth was empty.

- He’s taking the plane to Spain today.

Hawourd said.

Sarah was sitting in her bedroom balcony, her face was pale.

- If you don’t want to marry me Sarah, you just have to say a simple no.

- What are you talking about? Of course I want.

- You look sad and broken hearted.

He sat next to her.

- All what I want is to see you happy. If you don’t love me, then you’re not obliged to spend your life next to me. I don’t want you to commit the same mistake again.

He swallowed.

- Both of us knew Alex’s death was a murder. We both thought that Seth has a hand in what happened. That’s why I was trying to protect you from him as he did from me. Even when I asked to marry you, I was just trying to protect you and Den.

She turned to look at him.

- You don’t really love me?

- Of course I do honey. You’re my little sister. But he loves you as a woman. Go Sarah, go after him. Listen to your heart calls.

As he went out, Hawourd said over his shoulder:

- His plane is leaving at eight thirty.

Time was running fast. The poor woman spent all her day on her bed thinking. She decided not to go after him and let him go his own way. But when the clock showed eight twelve, she threw all her reasonable plans and followed what her heart was telling her to do.

Sarah couldn’t stop herself. She jumped out of her bed and changed into a short yellow dress. She ran down stairs and got out of the house. She had to arrive in time. She got into the driver’s seat and started the engine. Despair entered her heart from its large gate. There was no hope, she was late.

She put her head on the steering wheel and cried. She felt a sweet hand caressing her hair. She raised her head, and couldn’t believe her eyes. It was Seth.

- What about your plane?

- I didn’t take it.

- You changed the flight?

- I’m not leaving.

- Why?

He took her arm and helped her get out of the car.

- Because I love you, Sarah.

His words made her heart flutter. Is she having a deep sleep and she’s seeing a beautiful dream?

- Ms Sarah Gevery, do you mind being Ms Luxberg again? will you marry me?

Her lips curved into a sweet smile. There was no need to lie. Everything was clear.

- I love you too, Mr Seth Justin Luxberg! And I want to marry you!

He took her hands and came close. A voice was calling not far from them.

- Daddy!

Den ran towards Seth and the man hugged him strongly. He shot Sarah a soft look and take her close. They were three of them such a happy calm family.

It was a love nobody had expected!
