The methods to resolve this company file error from your QuickBooks are described below-
Method 1- Repair the damaged .nd file and scan it in DBSM
QuickBooks uses a multi-user network to connect many users and share company files among them. The software fails to establish the multi-user network if the Network Descriptor (.nd) file gets damaged. This can happen due to corruption in your hard drive or a virus attack on your QuickBooks data. You’ll have to repair the file by renaming it, which helps it be recreated the next time QuickBooks is opened on your computer. Use the following steps-
1. Open the QuickBooks folder on your computer using a file explorer.
2. Right-click on the Network Descriptor (.nd) file and select Rename from the options.
3. Type ‘.old’ in the file name as an extension and save the file.
4. Run the QuickBooks Database Server Manager using the search panel or QB tool hub.
5. Navigate to the Scan Folders tab and select your QuickBooks folder from the Browse option.
6. Tap Start Scan and wait until the folder is thoroughly scanned.
7. Reopen QuickBooks and access your company file.
If the software faces issues while opening a company file, move to the next solution.

Only the server should run in multi-user mode to host the company file. If the workstations start running in multi-user mode or another user occupies the company file in single-user mode, other systems face issues accessing the company file. Apply the following steps-
1. Click the File option on the server computer in QuickBooks and select Utilities.
2. Select the Host multi-user access option.
3. Go to the Utilities option on your workstations individually and tap Stop hosting multi-user Access.
4. Reboot all the systems and reopen the company file after fixing the QB hosting settings.
