Why does McAfee obstruct the speed of the computer?

McAfee antivirus is a security program that provides real-time protection to your device and network. When the user installs McAfee on the system; it creates the protection wall on the system. Whenever any threat tries to enter; McAfee detects and removes it. After installing McAfee antivirus, many people quote that McAfee making computer slow. Your McAfee can obstruct the speed of your computer when it is conflicting with another program. Security software also shows the speed issues when they are unable to get the resources.

Possible reasons behind McAfee speed issues:

1. You have installed another security program with McAfee

2. Your Operating System is outdated

3. Low RAM on your device

4. Your McAfee setup is outdated

5. Low free disk space

6. McAfee related registry files get into error

Resolving McAfee speed errors:

Uninstall another antivirus from the device

Some users think that using the multiple security software on your program will help in increasing device protection. But when you use multiple antivirus programs, they start conflicting with each other. Every antivirus has a different malware chart. Whenever the virus enters the system, they start conflicting. Due to this, users may face various antivirus-related error codes and the speed of your system will degrade. You should remove other antivirus programs and use only McAfee on the computer. Once you remove other security programs, your device will get optimized.

Update the Operating System of your device

McAfee antivirus can slow down the system speed when the OS is outdated. When McAfee scans the device, antivirus starts legging as the OS shows many issues. When any of the programs run slowly, the user should check the operating system. If your OS is running out of date then go to the Update and Security page. Tap on the Update button and the computer OS starts checking for the latest update. While updating the operating system, check the internet connection. Users will require a good internet connection for OS updates otherwise its update installation will fail. After updating the operating system, run the McAfee scan. Now your device will provide good performance.

Check the RAM usage on your device

The speed of your depends also depends on the RAM. When you have low RAM on the system; it will run with poor speed. For increasing the speed, you need to add RAM to your device. Sometimes the user has a good amount of RAM but the system still lags. This error appears when many programs are running in the background. These programs use the CPU cycle on the system. When many programs run simultaneously, the performance decreases. Users have to remove the background processes for reducing RAM usage.

1. Close all the programs from your Windows device

2. Press ctrl+Alt and Delete keys to open your taskbar

3. Your Windows Task Manager will appear

4. Choose the Application tab

5. Click on the application and tap on End Task

6. Go to the Processes tab

7. Tap on the programs you want to remove from the background

8. Select the End Task button

All the unnecessary programs will get removed from the background and now your running program will get more CPU cycles.

Remove McAfee from the startup

McAfee runs at the startup for providing real-time protection. But when you have low RAM than running the McAfee on startup may reduce the system speed. If you want to decrease the system impact of your McAfee antivirus on the device then you can remove the McAfee program from the startup.

1. Open the Run bar

2. Type MSConfig

3. Hit the OK button

4. Tap the Enter button

5. Choose the Startup tab

6. A list of startup programs appears

7. Uncheck McAfee from the list

8. Tap on Apply button

Hit the OK button and restart the device to apply changes. Now your McAfee antivirus won’t run at startup.

Increase free hard-disk space on the system

McAfee slows down the device when the disk space is low. This program requires some free space to process and scan. When you run the antivirus on the system, the device slows down due to low disk space. You can remove the unnecessary programs to reduce disk usage. Once the free-disk space increases, your device will start running at a good speed.
