Why I don't believe in God

God. What does god even mean to you? A "person" who can grant all your wishes.?A person who you can trust?  Give it all your breath to chant (say) those mantras/hymns (or whatever they are called in the respective religions). Go through a fish market of lines, just to see the 'god" in all the famous temples, churches, monasteries etc.. Just doesn't make sense to me. Archaeologists may have found relics and proof that god was there ages ago, but how much do you really believe?

In this article/essay/story (whatever you want to call it) ,I will tell you why I don't believe in god.

As children, we were made to believe in all those mythological stories that our parents told us. And for people who are from other religions, would have heard stories about the mythology of their faiths.  Naturally, as young, energetic kids, we would believe them. As we slowly grew up, parents started introducing us to hymns, mantras etc., that we would say before dinner, during religious festivals and so on. The reason behind saying it, to pray for a good life, for a good future and who knows what else people wish for , when they pray to god. But do you really think that god helps your life become better, gives you answers to your problems, or makes your wishes come true. Nope. That is the bitter truth. The results you get, are from your actions, and not from god's prayers.

On one hand, I believe in Raja Ram Mohan Roy ( an Indian socio-religious reformer), who said that there is only one god, but different names for him . He also said that there should be no idol worship (which makes perfect sense). But on the other hand, how can you believe in that one god?

For example in two Hindi movies (Oh My God [OMG] and PK), they tried to show that god isn't real. The movies tried their best to do so. In fact, after seeing those movies, my view for god has totally changed. By offering milk, fruits, money, or candle lights (in the Christian traditions)  and other things to god and idols etc. , you are doing them a favor! But think about it.  Instead of wasting these items on idols which will really never really help you in the long run (though they may give you "temporary moral support" ), why not give those items, and donate some money to the people who need it. Why not give your time to the needy, instead of spending time with "someone", who will never really be your guide, your answer to your wishes.

All the poojas , rituals, or any thing else that devotees from different  religions perform, are what I think  un-necessary. What are you getting from that? Once you may have wished or prayed for something, and coincidentally, it became real or true. But it  isn't going to happen all the time, is it?

Even now, when my family sits for prayers occasionally, or when we go to the temples, I just say the prayers, as I cannot let them down. But I do not believe in god.
