You are a woman they say
Like I do not know,
Don’t giggle
Or laugh too loud
In front of people,
Don’t be proud
They say.
Don’t speak in English,
While on the road,
Don’t wear revealing cloths.
Be silent in class,
Be not moody be social,
Don’t wear makeup loud,
Forget red lipstick,
Be cultural, be meek
Be mother be sister
Be somebody other,
But do not be proud
They say,
Stick to ground,
Don’t fall down,
Damsel in distress be a princess,
Wait for your charming,
Walk sober and light,
Be Cinderella be Snow white
Lower your tone,
Be gentle,
Don’t cry in public,
Don’t fight with a man
They say,
You are a woman.
You are powerless,
You are the second Sex,
You are the rib bone
So lower your tone,
While you speak with a man.
Don’t dream high,
You can’t run
And you can’t fly.
But I am too rebellious soul
I tell you
I never do what I am told,
Be a girl they say
But I am in every way,
When I speak aloud,
Or when I am proud,
I don’t have to prove my charm,
When I am fat or thin,
I am still a woman within.
I am cultured yes, I am
Even when I speak
In foreign tongues,
I am what I am made to be,
While cloths don’t define me,
So don’t tell me to shut up
Or to hide inside and at the corner
Of your four walls
Need not your approval
To think or to preach.
So if I am woman
I am never weak.
Beauty don’t define me,
If I am woman and I have flaws
I am human I am she.
so if I smirk or if I giggle,
It’s because your core is ugly.
Yes I am woman I am she.
