Flashy and shiny,
Like the streets under the night sky.
One by one those chrome wheels,
Break hearts as they zoom by.
Bystanders staring open mouthed,
Wishing and praying, one day beggars would ride.
Glitter and glamour,
High heels and red carpets.
Layers of pink and rouge,
Lined drapes and metallic bracelets.
Through windows look longingly and wide eyed,
Like mannequins, bare backed and bare mind.
Money and power the rich do devour,
Lay waste to the roadside all humanity and honour.
But glitter and sparkle may make the world go round,
In the end though, there's only one head to a crown.
With ten year olds to polish jewels to see their reflection,
To drink water drenched in deception.
While kings never see the bottom of their cup,
Those trampled in the fray rarely chance upon any good luck.
When it's all set and done, we're realise we're just pawns in this game,
The king and queen, the joker and the pauper.
You either climb the ranks, or you die,
It's not a draw, but no one's won.
