Can we talk?

Info

He walked away, just like that? Like we meant nothing, like I meant nothing.

I saw him across the road, with a bunch of roses. He was alone. I tried not to look at him, I swear I did try. But I couldn't stop stealing glances of him every second. He had changed. I saw him smiling at his phone, and something broke inside me again, Is he in love with someone else?

I debated with myself whether I should go up and talk to him. Maybe he will walk away, maybe he would smile the same enchanting smile, maybe he would hug me tight, maybe....nothing. I battled with my thoughts standing there for minutes which seemed like hours. Should I go? Indecisive as I am, I talked to myself.

I walked across the road, my eyes stuck on him and his on his phone. As I was walking towards him, suddenly he picked up his face and saw me. I was caught off-guard. Oooopps, I thought. I saw him walking towards me, his smile had faded away. A face so stern it seemed he would shout at me. I was trembling with fear. I froze where I was standing.

Hi. He looked great. His light brown eyes still twinkled the same. His hair had grown long and looked messed up, but it did look good on him. I noticed the black t-shirt he was wearing. Is it the one I gifted him, I thought. His jeans were faded blue, the perfect shade. His Rayban was hanging down from the collar of his t-shirt. His watch was in his pocket for sure, he hated wearing watches.

Hey? He called out again. I fumbled and ran out of words. How do you reply to double greetings, I thought to myself. I was anxious, and nervous, and I said, Hiiiiiiiiiii! He looked shocked at my exertion on the hi.

Him : So, can we talk?

Me : Yes...

Him : How are you? (I noticed the forced smile on his lips)

Me : Yeah, I'm fine and you? (I stammered, Oh God why?)

Him : Just fine. Long time, no?

Me : Yes, long time... So where are you headed to?

Him : To a friend's place. You?

Me : Same.

*Awkward silence.*

Me : So, I guess I should leave.

Him : Yeah.

As I turned to leave, Him : Hey? I miss you.

I turned back and said, I miss you too, and left smiling. A tear escaped the corner of my eye. I turned around to look at him for the last time, he was looking at me too. He smiled, I smiled, and both of us turned away again to move on with our lives.

This was enough, that meeting, those 10 minutes, it meant a lot.

I secretly wanted that he would ask for my number, but its good he didn't.

Somethings and some people are just not meant, no matter how much you love them or want them in your life.
