The feeling of reaching this stage in life is different for each person on the verge of graduating. For some, it’s a relief to get out of school’s routine and begin a new –and in many cases- better stage. For others, however, this stage is the end of a journey full of adventures that will be saved in the bottom of their hearts.
Even so knowing this stage comes to all, there are certain things that no one tells you, until you realize it when the last day of high school arrives.
These are some.
1. Time passes and it cannot be stopped by anyone.
Cherish moments that you know won’t happen again. Party a lot, go on random road trips, travel, and even get a little drunk (if that is the case). Get the most out of every second you have with your friends.
2. Do not take decisions thinking about other people.
It's normal to have someone else in your mind before making an important decision. But still, you should never take decisions thinking about someone else. It’s your life and your future depends only on you, no one else will help you succeed.
3. Spend time with your family.
Believe it or not, they are also going through a stage of nostalgia. Make them know how grateful you are for having them next to you. And if you plan to study abroad, don't forget that you will also have to say goodbye to your family. Enjoy the moments where you can share with them too.
4. Learn how to do things on your own.
You are entering the "adulthood stage", especially if you are going to live away from your family, and in another country. Start taking care of your own life and be independent. In a few months you will have to wash on your own clothes.
5. Learn from your mistakes.
School life will end shortly. The same mistakes you have been forgiven for many years will start to be a weight. From now on, it’s up to you to correct them. They are called mistakes for a reason; learn from them and grow.
6. Do not take people for granted.
Probably, you've never have had to make much effort to keep in touch with someone, because you have always managed to see them at school. But that will change. It will be up to you to keep in touch with your friends, since each one will take a different path, and they will probably be far away from you.
7. Forgive before leaving school.
It's normal to be in school and have a bit of resentment or bitterness over someone. Before you leave, let it go. This finishing stage needs to be closed so the following can flourish. So forgive any action that caused you pain, and move on. Don't take that with you.
8. Remember that details also count.
We often forget that the small details can become big things. So smile to your classmates although you may not like some very much, you may never see them again after finishing school. Thank your teachers even if you don't like their class, you will then realize that their class was a gift compared to university. Don't complain about school for a day, remember that thanks to school you are what you are, and you have the friends you have.
9. Do not regret anything.
Many times we regret actions committed years ago. Don't do it. Everything you did in these years of school have shaped you in what you are right now. Everything happens for a reason, don’t overthink it that much.
10. Stop believing people know what you feel; you have to say it.
Don't forget to say what you feel before it’s too late. Saying "thank you", "I love you" or "I'll miss you like crazy", will make people in your life know how much they really matter in your life.
“Who am I? I can’t recall the last time I thought about this.” I say to myself. -fictional story.
