My Safe Place

There's a peace that I've craved for so long, but it's not the kind of peace where everything is quiet or I'm alone and nothing can disturb me.

It's a kind of peace where I can hear the noises of nature, a distant hammering of metal, machines digging up the ground. It's a kind of peace where I'm surrounded by people, but I feel at home.

There's a place where I can go and hide like a child. Where anxiety can't reach me and loneliness can't get its claws on me.

A place where people have arms that can heal a soul with a hug. Where I can be myself and the eyes that look back on me held no judgement.

That place is peace.
