Alone Again

Info

Years ago, I made a promise with him.

I’ll wait till I see him rushing back to my castle from a mighty journey.

I’ll wait for him until things got right, until happy ending is at our hands.

I said I won’t replace him in my heart, said he’ll be my prince charming up to the last.

That time, he was the only star in my galaxy, my kryptonite and my pixie dust.

Weeks, months, and years had passed, I still waited patiently at my window,

Anticipating he’ll come soon whilst reminiscing our journeys together, our love, our promises.

Then one time, I had to visit a village under our castle and made a little speech.

And that’s the very first time you said you ever saw me.

My butler said you wanted to see me, and I told him to let you in.

The moment you first set foot on the floor of my castle, I didn’t expect things will change.

I never thought of breaking that promise to him, never thought of replacing him:

Nevertheless, your arrival let me so.

You were an artist and I was astonished by your paintings

For you painted rainbow in my grey, dull, dreary castle.

Your songs made me forget the nostalgic thoughts of my lost prince charming.

Your poetic words under the setting sun made me blush and giggle like a kid.

You held my hand and danced with me under the moonlight and melodic songs of the mermaids.

You waved your hand and the dying lilies magically glowed and bore flowers imbued with my favourite fragrant,

You whispered chants and made the fairies danced like splattered glitters in the night.

You dressed as a knight and slithered the dragon pestering my villagers at flight,

We were lying in my garden where you let roses bloom in an instant,

Where those roses witnessed your words when you told me I am your kryptonite and pixie dust.

With you by my side, we set journeys and adventures as we rule my kingdom.

You taught me how to shoot an arrow and together we pierced the ogres I feared the most.

You were always there saving me from the dangers I myself can’t fought.

Truly, my love, you changed my heart, you’re my hero in this uncertain world.

For a long time, we were like that until I secretly went into your room and saw a portrait of her,

Her eyes were glowing and your note on the edge of the canvass made me wanted not have sight.

“You will always be my brightest star in this vast galaxy, Xy.”

I fell on my knees, pearl-shaped tears rushed through my cheeks,

And grey clouds entered my once coloured palace.

You caught me staring blankly in an infinite bound and asked me what’s wrong,

I told you all, with heart aching and tears constantly flowing from my weary eyes.

I ended our love and was ready to let you fish for your brightest star, but you wiped my tears and said:

“Please don’t do this to me, she might be the brightest star, but you are my sun now, the owner of my universe.”

I felt like I was granted a wish I didn’t uttered yet from a fairy godmother,

Your response brought back all the colours and roses to my little kingdom,

I kissed you and whispered I love you so to the moon and back,

But then, I noticed her portrait remained glowing in your room.

I noticed the colours of the paintings in the walls started to fade,

You no longer sing a song for me to sleep nor kiss me goodnight,

You always come home late and we haven’t had the chance to share the bucketful of gold sunset

Feels like heaven is crying with me, which made the rain hid the moon to shed light as we danced.

Your hands got tired, which made the lilies went dry,

The fairies run out of pixie dusts and one by one, they left to seek diamonds to pound,

Oh love; I am not a fool not to notice why,

She will always be your brightest star, brighter than the sun.

I cry myself to sleep every night waiting for you to tell me what I feel is not right,

But seeing me cry made you so proud – Haha! A royal Queen fell in a nasty huntsman’s plot,

I ignored it all, hoping we’ll be the same again, hoping to see the man I loved behind the beast,

But I was wrong, for you are not my hero but the dark villain I foolishly let to destroy my kingdom.

I went to see Rumplestiltskin to ask for a magical protection spell for my kingdom from you.

On my way back, I saw your brightest star, and I learned she have now a prince and a son,

We became friends in an instant, she said you don’t deserve my love.

As I went home, I didn’t expect I would get the price for the magic I asked for.

I saw you holding another girl’s hands; the truth was then exposed.

It was not because of the brightest star, but of the stranger meteorite fell to your grounds.

Then I realized I had protected my kingdom from your hands but not my heart.

The sun is now again, alone as she was.

Soon enough, that meteorite will be your brightest star, your sun, your universe.

I know it is the hardest part; I am totally letting you go.

Soon you’ll bring magic to her life as you did to mine.

But, I sincerely wish she’ll love that magic the way I did, that she’ll love you the way I did.
