Am I allowed to dream?

I walk alone again as the city lights lighten up my path ,with a bunch of roses clutched in my fists to sell. "Go sell those roses by the end of day and get some money!", Amma said angrily, "we need to fill our stomachs!" I was here to explore and nothing more. The city is amusing. Angels and devils live together. I stared endlessly at the tall skyscrapers where the rich dwell. But the shabby huts flashed across my eyes, the place I belong and Amma's words kept ringing in my ears. If only she knew my beliefs were different than hers. "In this cursed fate,am I not allowed to dream?", I asked myself. My legs hurt and my feet were sore of the day's work. I just turned Eleven yesterday. Amma doesn't remember my birthday. We children from the slums mature as early as eigth .My stomach growled. Yes indeed, I was hungry by now. I see the green light turn red and run with the roses towards the luxurious cars. Unfortunately very few gleaming cars turned down their windows to buy these beautiful roses about to shrivel up and so was my life. One of the white sedan behind me, drew down the window and a man stared at me for a few seconds. He gestured me to go to him. As I got closer and looked up at his face , I couldn't get my eyes off him and I hung my mouth open. It was a known shabby face but yet so different with black glasses and neatly shaved. He was Wasim Dada well groomed in a black suit. He used to belong to our slum. As the story goes, he too would sell garlands at the traffic signals but he managed to change his fate after he left the slums ten years ago. I could only remember his face from a photograph I saw recently. Today is the first time I have seen him upfront. He never asked me the price of the roses. Before I could speak, he stretched out a 500 rupee note, "Give me all the nine roses you have left!" He said. "But Saheb, I don't have change of 500 rupees". "I don't need the change, I need the roses", he said. I gave him the roses and he seemed content. He left after he whispered a few words to me. That's when I realised I am allowed to dream. The red light turned green and I stood on the footpath, still staring at the back of his luxurious car. Today I found a spark in my life. All he said was ,"I am a businessman, and so are you!".
