An Ode To Sleepy

And when she tells you that she isn’t ready for love,

You will think of the million other times that you have been said the same kind of shit before

Most probably have made you wait a ridiculous amount of time for nothing but fingers filled with papercuts and a broken heart

But you will believe her, because this time, it’s different

She, is different from just any other girl

And when she tells you that she needs time and space away from you for a while

You will try every means necessary to keep her at arm’s length

You will settle for a suitor, or a friend, or a hype man just to be somewhere as close to her heart

As if when she wakes up from her dreams, finally ready to risk her heart away

You will be the first person she sees

But you know it doesn’t work like that

She wouldn’t wake up to a lullaby or by yanking her off her dreams by also biting a poisonous apple

She would wake up to a prince charming’s kiss and ride off to sunset through a chariot

And you know that,

You know that you do not need to kiss her to figure out that you aren’t a prince charming

You’re just a dwarf in the forest who fell in love with the girl who can’t open her eyes

So go back to bed, Sleepy, and may it last longer, the nights

For in dreams you may join her and even hold her tight

Love her in silence and away from the light

For the only love you know are the ones that aren’t in sight
