ASLEEP

The birds are chirping and the leaves sway.

Clouds pass by and the sun shines in a bright new sky.

So this world has avoided another night,

And eagerly waits to take on another day.

But in this world somewhere, is a tiny room with a window as its gateway.

And if you peek through it, you will see…

A woman sleeping, more than she should be.

She sleeps, and she sleeps so deep

That even when she’s awake, she is still asleep.

As she opens her eyes, her world closes in.

The chirping doesn’t reach her ears and the wind won’t brush her skin.

No bright sunlight can end the night within.

And so like all nocturnal things,

As the day unfolds, she folds her wings.

Maybe she isn’t a friend of noon.

May be she’s a lover of the moon.

Maybe her darkness isn’t so bad after all.

Stars shine only at night fall.
