Rain had just stopped and I was marching through the sloppy way of Pulchowk, Lalitpur. The engineering college’s guys could be seen in the road. In a distant, I could see some girls coming towards me. It seemed a gallop and they came at nearest.
“So you’re already here!” The girl in the middle spoke. “You look different from the time that I had seen you!”
“Oh yes! Different entourage, different face!” I smiled and replied.
She introduced me to all the 3 girls and spoke. “So where are you taking us to?”
“Us!” This was not as expected. I thought she was going to come alone. Whatever! “Let’s go. Nearby coffee shop will be the perfect!” I replied.
We then went to a nearby coffee shop and ordered 5 cups of coffee.
Awkward! It was really awkward to sit with 3 stranger and a semi-stranger girl in a coffee shop.
I don’t know what her friends were up to but it was something really troublesome moment for me.
“Well! I am thinking of leaving now.” I spoke after having few awkward sips of coffee.
“That’s so rude! We just arrived”. She replied. I don’t know why she was so comfortable.
“I just remembered some work needed to be done, we will meet soon next time.” I got up and headed towards the counter to pay bill.
“Well! I imagined this was our first date.” I heard the sentence while asking for the amount to be paid.
“First date!” Stroked in my head. “This is how you treat your boy in first date! By inviting more of your friends to make me awkward” I told to myself.
“Let’s celebrate our first date some other day!” I even didn’t look at them and left.
And that was that, today after almost 6 years, she called me to meet her in the same cafe. Nevertheless, I went as if there was any bonding remained till now.
There I saw her alone, a girl turned into a dearest lady. We smiled.
She ordered 2 cups of cappuccino and stayed quiet. “Wow she knows my choice!” I thought.
Coffee came at a gallop, faster than I ever noticed. Maybe, due to more excitement.
When I was having few sips, she spoke “Actually, I heard you have been teaching in the topmost school of the valley. So as you are one of my very old friends can I ask a favour to incorporate my child in your school?”
“Mummy! I am hungry!” A little boy came from aside, earlier I didn’t notice him.
Oh! It was again awkward! More awkward sips of coffee!
