I was feeling partially dizzy and was about to black out. The aftermath of the viral fever was mercilessly draining my stamina and had enough of my listlessness already. The long queue shrank gradually and I gently slipped into the seat beside the Doc.
He gave me the familiar smile of warmth and brought his stethoscope towards my chest.
"You've got one hell of a body-build there,young lady!",he quipped.
I smiled with difficulty, already world-weary of hearing people do that ,since my final year at the University.
"She hardly eats or takes care of herself Doc",Mom added,as always pouring petrol on fire.
No sooner did the Doc respond to her statement, than was there a slight chaos at the door.
There were around 8 people surrounding a young, unconcious man.He was put on a wheelchair without any etiquette and was pushed directly into the Doc's room.
A lady in her 40s wailed at the Doc,"Save my Child my Lord!! Please save my child! I don't know what to do.....We..we....have none but you for help".
The Doc rushed towards the noisy crowd and checked for the dying man's pulse. He immediately signalled to his scribe and started dictating quickly,
"Hanging Case.(Followed by a list of medical jargons and drugs)"
"What was that called??....That bone...some name...Yes! Hyoid bone must have been broken post strangulation",I scooted towards my mom and whispered.
"Shut up!",she muttered.I then,shut up.
He said that the patient must be kept in 24 hour observation to watch for delayed airway and pulmonary complications further.
Having not understood the exact meaning in his words, the crowd started letting out short mournful clamours.
"Please make him lie flat,on his back and give some time for the nerves to heal. The blood supply has to return to normalcy but the heart beat is fine, for now." ,he rephrased.
They all left the room, carrying the panic cloud above them and settled in the 3rd Ward.
All in all,he has crossed the danger zone.
Investigation Report:
Without any of her usual exaggeration or imaginary addendum,my mom tried to garner the reasons for the suicide attempt and cited them,as they should be.
"He was a driver and started seeing this girl,a year back. She was doing her Bachelor's in YYY Arts college. They had both went places and did things. He had spent most of his monthly salary for her and hadn't even cared to spare a share for his family. When the matter was opened to his parents, they didn't much resist or wanted to go against the wishes of their only child himself. As time melted, one dreadful day,the same day,she had asked him to forget everything and move on, as her parents had fixed date for an arranged marriage with another person. As it turned out to be the inevitable shock of his life,as his girl wasn't ready to get compromised for any cause,he didn't have any choice but end his life. After spending half-day at the bar,the liquored up poor soul had used his mom's cotton saree as a solution to the sore situation.Luckily enough,as it was a thatched house, the suicide attempt couldn't be a complete success. His father was crying his heart out, when he told this to me.What a pity..Oh dear..",my mom finished her narration low-spirited.
After 15 minutes or so,we heard incontinuous bellow of rage from his room.I was petrified and held myself close to mom and clutched her hand firmly. We left the building with silent prayers.
Moral of the story:Stage 1--When people exhibit cowardice, especially in such relationships, they definitely deserve to have all the top gruesome methods of execution in this world.
Moral of the story:Stage 2--You tell me.
