I didn’t get my first “decent” guitar until after I played for more than 2 years. That’s when I learned what convenience is while playing the guitar. But, does that mean what I did for more than 2 years was a complete waste? Let’s examine.
I had a Juarez acoustic guitar that was passed down to me by my older brother. It did not stay in tune nor did it have good intonation. I still managed to learn guitar fast on it and could somehow play all my favorite songs. So yes, we all know what my opinion about the topic in question here is.
Playing a low-quality guitar is better than not playing anything at all. But, I had a strong desire and passion to master this beautiful instrument. It was almost an obsession. This is exactly why what happened with me is not applicable to the generation today. An instrument like my guitar is bad for beginners cause it discourages them. Imagine playing the guitar where you barely can get any sound out of it and on top of that it struggles to stay in tune. It is frustrating and while you are learning the instrument, it can really get on your nerves.
On the plus side though, you do get all the benefits that come with playing the guitar. You get a sense of accomplishment, you become creatively more active and of course, how can we forget the female attention. Ultimately, it all boils down to how much do you desire all of the above. Do you mind not getting the rewarded instantly for what you learn or do you think you will give up / won’t be able to take the heat? It’s all up to you.
