Constant

“See your way Madam”! I prattled her from a distant as she was about to stumble in the subway. She thanked me without even looking behind at me. “Manner-less people! Can’t they even thank properly?” I murmured and moved ahead ignoring her.

“Oh! Wait! I think I know you!” She called me as I was marching fast.

As I looked back, it felt as if a there was an earthquake! We gazed for a while and gave sarcastic smiles to each other.

“Coffee?” I offered. She shook her head for a while and said “Ok.”

We went to the random coffee shop nearby, ordered 2 cups of milk coffee and sat.

“So! How’s life now?” She asked.

“Same. I still care about the girls who stumble in the road! Mind about the girls who ignore me the most. Nothing has changed!” I replied.

“You’re still same! You and your sarcasm!” She spoke making her face.

“Why do you expect me to change? After all, I am the one running behind everyone always! Constant and consistence. Always wanting to be there for someone and getting ignored as the time comes! You’re better in your lives, maybe your boyfriend is the best one!” I was in a mood!

“Oh! Common! Don’t start it now! You always collect the words to make me feel guilty! Though we just met after 8 months, you still behave the same! Grow up!” She replied.

It was light cup of coffee that I lifted up from the table with the heavy heart! Thousands of words ready to come out from my tongue and I pushed them back with a sip.

“Don’t make it awkward now! Speak something!” She told, observing my silence.

“My mind is full of things that are from past, that were between you and me! Heart is full of feelings and mind remembers the acts done in the time to get you! And here, I am still silent when you say something! Although I should have forgotten, I should have moved on like you! I should have understood that I was friend-zoned!”

She looked at me with big eyes! Seemed as if she was afraid again like she used to be in the past, took fast ships of coffee and paid the bill.

“Hope we meet again!” She said as she was ready to go!

A gentle smile, this time awful one! “Bye dear friend!” I said, looking at my cup of coffee, half filled up.

She went. This time carefully.

As I got out and walked in the subway! This time I stumbled, and even fell down. No-one said “See your way Sir!”
