Eyes for the Stars

Info

It's cold here, love.

And for some reason, it reminds me of you.

Does it, remind you of me?

Do the ice-cold train benches remind you, of the night we spent by the sea?

Does it remind you of my ice-cold hands, that refused to warm up even when you held them in yours?

Does it, in the very least, remind you that we slept beside each other that night, for the very first time?

Sometimes, my dear; sometimes, i wake up in the middle of the long winter night, to readjust my covers.

And while i lay there, unsuccessfully trying to coax myself back to sleep, i suddenly, miss you.

And i realise, i would've slept uninterrupted, had you been around, mon amour; your warm embrace would've been enough to keep me warm through the night, and nights to come,

Your slender fingers, just enough to fill the spaces between mine.

°

°

And have i ever told you, your laughter is so mesmerizing,

So pure, like a child's.

And just when i think i'm getting over how wonderful a person you are, I trip over my own shoelaces and fall in love with you all over again.

And you laugh. Obviously.

You laugh at how clumsy i am.

You laugh at how adorable i can be when i'm being me.

°

°

And God bless you, if you knew, how much i pined to be there, when you were hurt;

How much i wished to wipe your tears, so they didn't fall and agitate the wound on your cheek, where your father's belt hit you.

Oh, how i wish i could undo every bit of wrongdoing that has ever been shoved your way.

My only solace at this point, my sweet, lies in the fact that when i look out my window, I see the same moon you're looking at; the same sky, the both of us reside under.

°

°

And while the night sky transcends into a canvas painted somewhat yellow, somewhat orange,

My kohl-ridden tears dry up, branding my face with patterns,

Like the ones a stream leaves on the dry ground, as it turns into a trickle and slowly fades away.

And all this while, my darling, you should know, that my eyes were only for the stars, that mirrored the galaxies in yours.
