I was sitting on a wooden bench,
Feeling lonely and withdrawn,
I felt something touch my shoulder,
I peered around with a frown.
My train of endless thoughts disturbed,
By a leaf that fell from a tree,
I looked up and found it staring down,
As if it was beckoning me.
I rubbed my eyes and pinched my arm,
Dazed at what I saw,
Then I heard a voice with the saddest bass,
Thereafter fell my jaw.
I understood that I must be dreaming,
For the people around me had stopped all motion,
I said "Hello dear tree, do not pester me"
I was here to deal with my head's commotion.
The tree said it was called Mahogany,
And Just like that started talking to me,
He was happy one of his last leaves fell,
And he was hoping to be dead soon as well.
"Want to be united with someone in afterlife,
The bench you are sitting on used to be my wife,
I have held on till now, in a way she was beside,
But I no longer can bear, so in you I confide.
She -- was the finest Teak tree,
Always standing tall beside me,
We lived many many happy years,
Braved many storms, seasons, atmospheres.
One day your people came to chop a few,
And took my dear beloved with them too,
As soon as I laid my eyes,
I recognised the newest bench,
But she was lifeless, so different and with some spirit's stench.
Yet everyday, I hold conversations with her,
Everyday I try to rot and bring my end nearer."
I heard all this and smiled a sad smile,
Told "My friend, let's get ready for that ride,
For I myself lost my dearest one too,
Half of me is gone, so I empathize with you,
Why don't we help each other,
Oh My melancholic brother?
I'll end your life,
In any way you like,
This time drop a branch or two,
Because you should end mine too"
