The slope was partially lit. The light from the buildings formed unknown patterns on the hills as far as she could see. She stared at the last house on the top row, behind which was darkness, unaware of anything around her and lost in the charm mountains always had on her.
She didn't know how long she had been standing there in the balcony till her legs ached. She sat down, leaning against the cold glass door. Her toes were freezing, but she didn't want to let go of this solitude. Yes, she loved mountains. She loved the way they smelled, the way they changed colors and hid the secrets of the rocks under the happy, melodious green...
Mountains always appealed to her as real humans -- much more humane than people she knew. And this is why she always came back to them, seeking solace in a new incarnation every single time.
She rested her head against the door and looked up to the sky. The clouds caressed the dark outline of the tallest mountain. The moon watched the alluring interplay as it glided peacefully. The serenity of the night in the calm of the mountains had put her thoughts to rest. She didn't want to think about work, friends, lovers, or anything that usually bothered her at this time of the night. All she wanted was to smell the air, feel the chill down her spine, and embrace the melody created by a far-off waterfall... It was her way reaching the deepest corners of her heart. It was her way of coming back to herself after being lost in a storm. It was her homecoming to her own self.
