Does your child need an enema every day? How often can you give an enema? These are questions asked by many parents.
Dr. Kaayla Daniel, Ph.D., said: "There is a wide range of tolerance among children for colon cleansing. Some children report backpacking across Europe or other physical challenges with little discomfort, while others complain about almost any colonic.
"If your child resists or complains of cramping and discomfort, then the enema is too strong and should be diluted by using less soap and more water," she added.
Some children can take a soapy bath every day while others complain it's not fun anymore after three or four times. Dr. Daniel said: "If they feel washed out and dizzy, they need to decrease the soap strength. Some children begin colon cleansing with a half-cup of soap, and that is diluted into one gallon of water every day until they acclimatize".
"I do not recommend introducing soap into any child's system more than once a week, but if they have bowel movements that require soap, then, by all means, use it once a day. Their colon will get used to this, and it won't be necessary to continue using the strong concentration long term", she added.

"It is best if the wash water is warmed to body temperature, and I suggest you add Epson salts or baking soda for osmotic effect and to help the water penetrate faster," she said.
Some children can take an enema every day, while others can only go once a week. Dr. Daniel said: "If you want your child to be clean on a daily basis, you will need to give more than one soapy wash per day."
"The child who cleans once a week can actually do well with one soapy enema each day for three days. I recommend that your child always have an enema or, at least, access to soap and water over holidays and school vacations", she added.
"For children under seven years old, it is recommended that parents use baby oil instead of soap because the child's skin is more tender," she added.
For some reason, children who are regulars at colon cleansing end up with fewer ear infections and colds than those who do not cleanse. "I think that the bacteria that cause these problems like to hide in places where they can stay away from soap and water-like the ears, nose, throat, and any place with mucous. The colon is one of the few places where they are safe from soap", she said.
"Once children begin to take an active interest in bathing themselves, you should encourage them to learn how to use the enema bag for their own personal daily cleansing regime-as long as you approve it," she added.
"Most children can take care of themselves using a bottle, syringe, or enema bag-that is comfortable for them. They will need to use about two quarts of water at body temperature, and you will need to do a little coaching if they have never done it before", she added.
