How To Choose A Funeral Home

Info

It is sad enough that people have to deal with the loss of someone they love. It is even sadder that when they make funeral arrangements, others can take advantage of their vulnerability. It is not uncommon to hear about funeral homes demanding a very high price for their services. This may not be an issue for those who are on the higher income bracket, but for middle-income earners individuals, this can mean a lot, even more to those who belong farther down the average economic line. If you are in a situation right now where you are being quoted a ridiculously high price for funeral service, learn about the Funeral Rule  funerarias barcelona

The Funeral rule is actually a set of guidelines implemented by the Federal Trade Commission for the protection of the public. This rule basically gives you the right to pick out the only items and services you would like to avail of during a funeral service. This means, for example, that you have the freedom to choose what casket and flower arrangements you would like. The funeral provider is also required by this rule to give you an itemized list of their items and services alongside their individual prices. They can still offer package rates, but you feel more comfortable picking out the details of the funeral service yourself, you have the right to refuse these packages.

Another important part of this rule that can offer consumers protection is that which obliges funeral providers to give descriptions of each good or service they present to you. This is so you can avoid surprises or unmet expectations. Sometimes, you can be easily swayed into availing of funeral goods or services that turn out to be completely unnecessary. But when the provider gives you a detailed description of everything, there is a better chance that you will end up buying only what you want or need.

The Funeral Rule provides for other concerns regarding funeral services, including the prohibition against funeral providers charging a fee for a casket bought elsewhere. There are states or cities, however, where consumers are required to buy certain items. If this applies to you, do not just accept your funeral provider's word for it. Let them show these items or services to you on a price list and have them refer to the specific law that obliges you to avail of any of them. If you are making arrangements for cremation, know that this rule obliges all funeral providers to provide alternative containers.

The Funeral Rule goes a long way in protecting consumers at a time when traditional funeral services can run well up to $8,000 - $ 10,000. Usually, this price range applies to packages which include goods and services that are not essential to a funeral. With the Funeral rule, people are given the right to avail only of what they need or want and can afford.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, funerals rank "among the most expensive purchases many consumers will ever make. A traditional funeral, including a casket and vault, costs about $6,000, although 'extras' like flowers, obituary notices, acknowledgment cards or limousines can add thousands of dollars to the bottom line. Many funerals run well over $10,000."
