Keep your door handles hygienic and clean

With the arrival of the coronavirus in our country, hygiene regulations and advice are also increasing. Regular cleaning of objects that are touched by many different people is a must. Hygienic cleaning is especially important in public buildings in limiting sources of disease. One of those public objects that we touch very often and which therefore deserves the necessary attention is… the plastic door handle!

How do I hygienically clean my door fittings?

When you consider that you hold a door handle more often than a TV remote control, you understand: cleaning is very important. With most finishes (such as stainless steel, brass, or coated material) it is advisable to regularly wipe the door handle with a damp cloth. Use water and a solution such as green soap, but wring out the cloth before cleaning the door fitting. Never use aggressive cleaning agents, because the material is not suitable for this. In the fight against the coronavirus, disinfection with alcohol is particularly useful. That this is important has been shown by various studies. For example, corona could survive on stainless steel and plastic for a long time. Results vary from a survival time of 6/7 hours to as much as three days, but it shows the urgency of disinfecting door fittings! You can simply clean our aluminium door locks and handles with disinfectants and alcohol. Is your door handle made of different material and you are not sure whether it can withstand alcohol? Try this first on a piece at the bottom of the door handle.

Clean wooden door fittings

Does your door handle have a wooden centerpiece, such as with the Ika door fittings from the 1930s? Then in the case of beech and cherry wood, you can clean the middle part with a slightly damp cloth. However, black ebony and oak whitewash have an oil layer, so it does not combine with moisture. With these finishes, you can rub the ebony and oak with a dry cloth.
