Dear friend,
I call you friend because I wish the best for you. And if you are reading this letter then this is definitely not the best for you. If you wish to continue reading this letter then I can promise you two things. One, this story has changed my life and it will change yours. Second, reading this letter has its own consequences. I will come to the consequences at the end of this letter. My advice to you is to fold this letter and burn it off so that no one else reads it. But still if you are willing to read this letter then you have made your choice. Remember, choice is important. Choice defines the next moment.
Last chance. Burn this letter!
I was a priest of a very old church. Though the church was old, I was very new. I was ordained a priest only three months back and this was my first assignment in this old church. We were on our way to renovate the old sacred chapel. For some reason it was closed for a long time, and I decided to renovate it and clean it. I wondered why the priest before me never did this. He was in this parish for 48 years before he died and I took over. I decided to do that, and I regret that choice to this very day.
The chapel had its own story. The chapel had a closed box secured in an old trunk. The box looked very old, and had old carved writings on it. I could understand that this was pre-historic and could have been much older than the time of Christ himself, as I was student of history and theology. I had special interests in languages and I could guess the language was a mix of Sumerian and Egyptian. In such cases we are supposed to report such events back to the church, but I decided to open the box and see for myself. I was extremely curious. I regret my choice.
There was a letter in the box, and many old articles. I decided to decode the literature in the letter myself. It was already late night, and I had skipped my dinner too. Something in the box attracted me to it, and I was so drawn to it so much that I could not rest unless I decoded the literature and understood what was in the box. I wish I could turn the clock back and undo my choices.
This is what the letter said.
“I, JEHOVAH AM YOUR GOD. I WILL PROTECT YOU AND YOUR BELONGINGS. THIS IS MY COVENANT WITH YOU. CLOSE THIS LETTER IN THE BOX. ANYONE WHO OPENS THIS WILL BE PUT TO CURSE AND HIS GENERATIONS WILL BE DESTROYED. THE BOX WILL BE CALLED COVENANT BOX AND YOU ARE TO CARRY THIS WITH YOU. THIS WILL BE SYMBOLIC OF MY PRESENCE WITH YOU.”
I should not have read the letter. I got scared. I panicked. I kept the letter back. Closed the box and locked the trunk. I decided to inform this matter to the church next morning. But, as soon as I reached my room I saw an old man sitting on my bed. I was scared. The door closed on its own behind me. I tried to scream, but I could not. He told me
Simon- That’s all?
Mark- Yes, that’s all what I found from Fr. Thomas’ letter. He was on the table dead, with this letter next to him.
Simon- Does the police know about this?
Mark- No, I hid this letter. He died of heart attack. Right?
Simon-We need to send this letter to the church.
Attendee- Fr. Bishop we found this letter in the car in which brother Simon and Mark were travelling. It is addressed to you.
Bishop- How are they doing?
Attendee-They did not survive the accident.
