the night we try to catch fireflies

it is a misty night, a lonely night

the power is out all over the whole town

at the time of the night like this, we're usually cozy inside

distracting ourselves with a book, a screen, or a thought

but this night is different, much different

because  we saw fireflies outside

we saw these tiny flickering species flying around

some brighter than the other

they remind me of the fairy lights that you put in your backyard

except this one is nature given

it's fun to see them seem to transport in different places

but really just flying turning the lights on and off

and just like those kids we see in the movies

we run around trying to catch some

putting them inside a transparent jar

feeling both triumphant and tired, we sat on the ground

we look at these little creatures we captured

they're mesmerizing to look at 

i could even say magical

moments like these reminds me that taking a break from the usual could be really rewarding

that magic exist, if you let it

that a dark night and some lighting creatures could make you breathe

i feel refreshed and satisfied

after feeling the air in my lungs again, i opened the jar

i let the fireflies go and fly away

i let them breathe

just like how they let me that night
