It's normal to think about bed bugs. You've seen them in the movies, you've heard your friends talk about them, and now you're worried that your apartment is infested with these nasty little bloodsuckers. The good news is that even if it turns out you do have bed bugs, they can be treated and taken care of quickly! But first things first: Should we be worried?
The answer is maybe: Bed bug infestations are on the rise across Canada—and around the world. However, there are also many cases where people suspect they have bed bugs but really don't (or at least not enough to warrant treatment). So how do you know if you really need professional pest control services? Here are some common signs of a possible infestation:
Bed Bug Hideouts
Bed bug hideouts are where bed bugs will go when they're not feeding on you. These hiding spots can be as small as a crack in the wall or under your floorboards, or as big as an entire drawer of clothing. Check for signs of bed bugs by looking for small black dots on walls and furniture that may indicate fecal stains from the bugs. Bed bug feces looks like tiny black dots on surfaces such as woodwork, baseboards, and sheets that might have been contacted by the insects when they climbed down from their resting places.
Bed bugs also like to hide away in small crevices around baseboards, electrical outlets and picture frames. They can also be found crawling behind wallpaper and inside clocks radios etc where they'll rest during daylight hours away from their host (you). Some people even report finding them inside light fixtures!
Other Signs of Bed Bug Activity
If you’re still worried about bed bugs, you can look for additional signs of an infestation. For example, bed bugs tend to leave behind cast skins and fecal spots on sheets, as well as black dots from the dried blood they suck out of people. You might also notice live bugs and eggs if you get close enough to see them. Many times, people will find live or dead adult bed bugs hiding in the seams of mattresses or box springs—especially if they’re seeing bites on themselves but not on their partner(s). Lastly, sometimes what seems like an obvious sign turns out not to be anything at all! Consider this: If a person has been in your home recently enough that they could have brought bedbugs with them (for example, a relative stayed over), it wouldn't make much sense for there to be no other signs of those pests in places where they would hide—for example near where their luggage was kept while staying over!
Conclusion
Bed bugs are sneaky little critters, so it's important to be vigilant and check your sheets for signs of bed bug activity. This article provides a few examples of how you can do that, but keep in mind that there aren't any surefire ways to detect them before they cause damage. For example, if you're experiencing itching in your sleep or waking up with red marks on your body then this might be a sign that there are bugs nearby!
